7 weeks after surgery and still on liquids???
I had a sleeve done 7 weeks ago. I feel I cannot eat solid food yet. I find that I am safe with yogurt, shakes, soups, etc. My surgeon;s post op diet had me eating solids after 4 weeks but I have not been able to move on yet. Is this normal? Will this jeopardize my weight loss staying on soft meals?
I have lost roughly 40 lbs in these 7 weeks, very happy with this.
Why do you feel that you can't eat solid food? Have you tried anything yet?
I recommend that you at least try moving forward with pureed food. Check out The World According to Eggface and search for her ideas for pureed foods.
Eating solid food will not stop your weight loss. Developing an eating disorder is not the road you want to take. The goal is to learn new healthy eating habits that will sustain you for the rest of your life. The time is now.

I found the transition to solid food hard and it is still a challenge sometimes I am trying to figure out. Small bites (cut things the size of a piece of chex cereal, or sometimes in the beginning I did the size of a pea)- chew well - make sure things are moist and not dry. It's Ok to use a little sauce, gravy etc so it is not dry. In my support group some people recommend the crockpot for keeping it moist. It doesn't have to be a lot...I still only serve myself 2oz of any kind of meat/chicken. You do not have to eat solid at every meal either, but at 7 weeks you probably need to work on it. Also can incorporate a small amount of veggies. Honestly the taste of the veggies with the meat help me with taste. Good Luck!

You cannot eat solid foods? Or you don't feel safe eating them so you choose not to? Those are two very different issues.
If for some reason you are not capable of eating solid foods, no, that's not normal, and I would call your surgeon in the morning to discuss what might be causing the problem.
If you are choosing not to eat solid foods even though you are capable of doing so because you don't feel safe, I'm not sure if that's normal or not, and I'd also discuss that with your surgeon. If you are having a lot of fear over eating, you might want to talk to a therapist.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
My viewpoint may be a little different than the others, as my surgeon advanced my post-op diet very slowly. I was not cleared for solid foods until week 9.
I did however follow a set progression from clear liquids, to full liquids, to purees, to soft food, to solid food. I was at each stage for two weeks before moving to the next.
Have you talked to your surgeon about your concerns?
edited to add: it's important to remember that when we talk about advancing to different food stages postop we are still in most cases eating very, very small amounts at one time. For example, when I could have solids, many of my "meals" consisted of only several small bites of protein. You're not expected to eat more like average folks until much further out.
It's okay to take it slowly. Start with the moistest and softest things first, like ricotta cheese, eggs, moist and tender (slow cooked) meats and overcooked veggies. Think of foods that can be smooshed with a fork (you don't have to smoosh before eating, but that's your tenderness gauge). Try one new thing at a time, so if it doesn't set well, you know what's to blame.

Thanks to all you responded. I can eat a few bites of solids and feel very full, so I choose to stay on soft foods because I can eat more and because it is just more comfortable. I have been pulverizing chicken and blending it into my soups so they thick. I am getting all the protein I need everyday. Thanks again for the helpful tips I will start with 3 days a week one meal a day of pure solids and add mod consistency to my sot food and more forward.
