Hernias? and Horse Riders

I will be having Hernia repair surgery and just starting to get educated about this. Nurse of wls surgeon said to me she is worried for me because of my heart condition. If you've had Inguinal Hernia repair, could you tell me how long your surgery lasted? My trip to the E R having a cat scan showed I have several small Hernias. Doctor also said they have been there for a long time.How long will I be in surgery? Not sure the surgeon will be fully honest with me how long it takes. I want to know exactly how long?The longer in surgery the more dangerous. Hopefully you were able to know what time you went into surgery and when surgery was completed. Also if you ride horse , were you able to ride again after Hernia repair? I don't want to give up riding afterwards. I was told to stop riding now until this gets taken care of, But I rode for 20 min about 5 days ago. no worries, I didn't lope. A steady slow walk. Has any horse riders after Hernia Surgery able to ride again? if so did you have to change to a slow walk? I love lopeing. I have read Hernias can re occur.. Thanks.. Wendy

Personally, I'd be following the advice of my doc.  If he said no horseback riding, I wouldn't be riding a horse.  Especially when the issue is internal so I would have no way of knowing if it was causing or exacerbating problems or not.  

Perhaps you could work to find doctors you trust more?  You seem to be having troubles trusting your current doctors, which must make everything more challenging.  

Boy.  You don't trust your surgeon.........and you don't follow his instructions.   Not good.

To answer one question though, he can only estimate how long the surgery will take.  He could say two hours and it could end up taking four.  No way to tell until he's operating.

Never thought of that. Your right. It could end up taking longer, from road blocks or complications. Just wondering on the average length of time it takes.
