I am considering wls.  I am on the fence cause I a both scared and nervous about it.  I live in nc per my name..Anyway the place I am considering is durham regional.  I mentioned that to a friend of mine she had wls at chapel hill.  She just thought chapel his was oh so much better than durham regional eventhough from her surgery she developed a blood clot and had to go back to the hospital for a gi bleed.  I guess she doesnt see that as a complication from the surgery and just thinks chapel hill would be a better option.  I talked to my insurance they want you to go to a hosiptal that is a center for excellence for bariatric surgery durham regional is and chapel hill is not.  I just feel no matter where u go there is always a chance of having some sort of complecation.  I just so nervous and scared about having the surgery I just dont need anyone confusing me and making me question my decision even more.

Your friend's blood clot and GI bleed could have happened no matter where she had surgery, or which form of WLS she had. I suggest you decide which form of WLS (VSG?Sleeve, RNY/gastric bypass, or DS/duodenal switch) you want to have, then choose a surgeon and hospital based on their experience in doing that procedure.

My insurance would only cover a Bariatric Center of excellence.  Ask questions, read on line about procedures, talk to the Dr and ask to talk to other patients of his that had the same surgery you want.  Read about your Dr on line, or ask him how many surgeries he has done, vsg, RNY, DS.  Go to the blue strip at the top of the page, there is a lot of info you can get there, questions to ask your DR, check to see if your Dr did any surgeries for someone in OH.

Good luck

You've had lots of good advice already;   check out the following link re: complications, etc.:

It's not a bad idea to be certain.
