People are rude

OH has this great feature where you can ignore people and never see their comments again.  If you're tired of "negative, rude people," maybe it would be of benefit to you.

Nothing anyone says will help someone hellbent on self destruction. She knows what she's doing. She wants to argue with people about her poor choices because she just wants to argue and be belligerent.

I agree.  And misery does indeed love company.

Some woman on here said something very hateful to me on like day 10 after my surgery. I blocked her butt. Don't need that negative energy!

Sometimes people say things in such a way that they come across harshly.  It's the old adage of not having emotions show in texts, etc.  Most people, not all, do not mean to be harsh, but 'don't sweat the small things' and you will be OK!!!!

Take care.

That's why they make it so easy to block people.

If I had a nickel for everytime my daughter accused me of being mean, I'd be rich. But really, I've never been mean to her, ever. Not once. I've told her lots of things she didn't like, and certainly didn't want to hear, but that didn't make them mean.

I have seen very few posts on OH that were mean. Support does not mean patting someone's back and telling them everything is wonderful when it isn't. People usually get plenty of that. There is a lot of knowledge and experience here, all of which have helped me be very successful. I haven't always heard what I was hoping to, but it's always helped.

I'm sure some of you will find this post to be mean. It certainly isn't meant to be. My intent is to say that I hope everyone will be successful and happy. And when you post on an internet forum looking for information and advice, you sometimes won't get what you want, but you almost always get what you need. I think that's a better definition of support than a simple pat on the back.

Love this comment.  I think the parent/child metaphor is a great one.  And - as a daughter I can tell you - as daughters grow up, they begin appreciate all the guidance given to them to help ensure their future has the benefit of their parents' wisdom (just like newbies!).

I think you should reread that comment as it said nothing of the sort. It was pretty supportive and cautioned you to be kind to yourself instead of falling into a spiral of self loathing. You even thanked the person for their advice and said it was appreciated!

Grim nailed it in his comment above. Support comes in many shapes and sizes (just like we do). And sometimes what a person needs to hear, or should hear, is "hey, you can do this, even though it will be hard."

As my dad has always reminded me - you get what you pay for when it comes to free advice sometimes ;) Learn to skip the advice that bugs you, chances are the same advice speaks to someone else.

Another bit of advice that has served me well over the decades on the Internet is, "if there are two ways to interpret something, and one of them ****** you off, choose the other way."
