Thank you!  I am so happy to hear that you were originally going to have the sleeve and changed to bypass with no regrets!!!  That is what I needed to hear.  I think you are correct about my friend.  I have informed her about this website so maybe she will get the support that she needs.  God Bless You!

Just to add to the chorus- my niece had RNY 10 years ago and has kept off 120 pounds. She was part of my inspiration for getting the surgery. If you stay on these boards there is plenty of sound advice for losing and keeping the weight off. My niece is a 'dumper'. She doesn't see it as a problem, once you learn what causes it it's not a mystery. She says it helps keep her in line, she sees it as a blessing. I see her eat desserts at holidays, but 3 bite limit. My understanding is only 30% of patients are dumpers... so that may not be you.

What a wonderful way to look at it!  Dumping is actually a gift for some to keep them in line!  I need to start looking at the bright side of things with the glass half full!  God bless both of you!

Fanx NYmon222...that is good to know, since I too have been advised to take RNY due to a large sliding Hiatus Hernia. And well done your niece! I think I would not mind some dumping to keep me in Check! Go in Nov 3 2014 so next week !!

Cheers zigzag

Hi ipray. SAME THING FOR ME.  I go in Nov 3 for bypass for exactly the same reason. I am in Brisbane Australia. Specialist surgeons default to bypass is you are like me and have present Hx reflux (though mine is moderate and intermittent). I also had a gastroscopy 4 days prior to the planned Sleeve in September at  surgeons behest, and I have a large sliding hiatus hernia. He said that if he does do sleeve I would be back in 6 - 12 months for bypass because severe reflux. A lifetime of reflux can damage tissue besides being a pain to deal with.

Good luck with everything

PS I had a few weeks to decide if I wanted the bypass as I knew it was a bigger op, surgeon was very patient as they should...of course I am nervous but have trust in his skills.

Sounds exactly like my situation! Thank goodness you are finally getting the surgery that you need!  Gerd is no fun and we don't want it to get worse.  I will say a prayer for your success.  Thank you for sharing you experience.  I have decided to listen to the surgeon.  Thanks to helpful people like yourself.  Good luck and God bless!
