Anyone else in the <40 with no comorbidities limbo?
My BMI is about a 37, and I don't have any comorbidities that I'm aware of. I went to an info session last night, and they said that they could test me for sleep apnea and if I have it I may be able to use that. As far as I know, I sleep pretty well at night so I'm not sure if that's likely. If I don't have sleep apnea, I won't stand a chance for approval, unless my BMI reaches 40. That's about 20 lbs. away. Is anyone else in this position? How are you handling it? Are you just waiting it out until you get another comorbidity or get over 40 BMI? Are you considering self-paying? Gaining the weight on purpose is not something I would ever do to myself, but might be my only chance of ever getting to a healthy weight while I'm still young/of childbearing years. How did you handle this?

I self paid.
I was ready when I was ready and my insurance would not pay, so I self-financed.
I could have waited 6 months to change to my husbands insurance, and then had a few months wait to be approved by them, but by that time, I had lost about 75 pounds by self-paying.
It was worth it to me and I was fortunate enough to be able to afford it.
I'm planning on self pay in Mexico. They're more progressive than the states for this reason. They believe that 35 bmi should be the lower limit. If you can get the sleep apnea test covered, do it. You'd be surprised what your body does when you think you're asleep. I've got narcolepsy, with mild osa due to weight gain. I'm sitting at 38 bmi. But I'm not willing to gain that little bit extra to satisfy US terrible demands. Also check if you have GERD. This also qualifies as a comorbidity

I had joint pain when walking upstairs... May be due to over weight or something else, but they counted that. I also, my bladder prolapsed so it can be incontinent at times, and that also counted as a comorbidity. My BMI was right at 39 and they approved my surgery.
