Need your advise please
I have a different surgery but can eat all foods. Which in a way is a shame as it puts all the hard work of eating healthily on me!
This is in no way intended to be critical but if you are worried about a restricted diet, maybe you aren't ready for surgery yet? My pre-surgery feeling was that I knew I should stop eating certain foods but couldn't on my own. I wanted to be forced to give them up. That didn't happen! But the point is I was ready to accept the trade off, limited diet, healthy me!
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I think a lot of people have feelings of this nature in the beginning because food is such a huge part of your life then. I had the sleeve done. Once the weight is coming off/ off and your life has changed into so many great things other than enjoying food these feelings weren't there for me anymore. IMO you can choose to enjoy one thing (food) or several things (better health, self esteem, clothes, exercise, family gatherings, etc) i also find myself excited about foods just now instead of it being cake it's a new way to make chicken or fish or whatever it may be. So goodluck :-) you can do it!
Total foodie here, both pre-op and post-op. But the post-op me is a lot smarter about it. The few non-op friends that know I had the surgery thought I should be sadder than I am about having to eat less...but for me that is the big wonderful thing about my RNY. I had told the surgeon I wanted the sleeve but pre-op testing meant that due to the discovery I have Barretts Esophagus that RNY was really my best option, so after my mental adjustment I went that way and happy about it. I am still a foodie; I have friends with whom I dine out regularly, at the nicest restaurants in town. It's never an issue to order either just appetizers, or just the entree with extra veg in place of the starch and I know I will be taking most my meal home - and I enjoy it again over the next couple of days. Just because I can eat less (still quite happy about that too), does not mean that any foods are 'not allowed'. I do choose to not partake of some things because I don't want the calories or I know I'm likely to have an unpleasant reaction. But I do sometimes order a dessert to split with a friend, and after a bite or two I am totally satisfied and done.
Good luck in your pursuit of health, whether it's surgery or another avenue ~ This is a great place to learn.
