Liquid diet for weight loss!
So i had my consutation today (dietitian, surgeon and program coordinators) I knew I was going to have to lose weight before surgery so I expected to be put on a diet, but I didn't expect to be put on a all liquid diet!! I still have some pre/op testing requirements to get done so I'm no where near being scheduled for surgery, my endoscopy consult is on November 6th and that's just the consult! I mean I was prepared for the 2week pre/op all liquid diet, but how am I suppose to survive more than two weeks on a all liquid diet (is that even healthy?) im looking at mid or late December to even be scheduled for surgery, I've got 30lbs to lose. Any suggestions on what I can do to survive this? Or has anyone else had to do anything similar?? I'm very nervous about doing this type of diet without the tool for two months, I don't want to fail or slip up!
Ps: I purchased cornerstone protein mix from my surgeons office in vanilla
Are your medical people adamant? Might a programme of protein shakes and one light meal be possible? It does sound rather draconian to expect a liquid diet when you haven't even got a surgery date. But I assume they have their reasons. Might it be worth talking to them again and asking to explain these reasons? Is it just for very rapid weight loss? If you are very big, that should be achievable without quite such a dramatic diet.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Ok just so I am reading this right the surgeon wants you to lose 30lbs correct? They stated it had to be done by a full liquid diet correct?
Now have you been approved by insurance for the surgery or do you have to wait until after everything is submitted? When did the surgeon want you to start the liquid diet?
Suggestion on proteins go to www.mybariatricpantry.com you can get sample packets of several different flavors. I will say the Syntrax necter ones when mixed with unsweetened almond milk mix up smooth. No gritty taste or texture. And if you like peanut butter they have some very tastey ones.
Ok so I talked to the dietition today! I'm going to be alternating after 2weeks to just a regular diet! The dietiatian said the reason for the 2weeks liquid diet right now, is because I want to lose the weight fast so I can have surgery soon that's why I'm doing the liquid diet now, as well as 2 weeks before surgery!
I have completed all my insurance requirments, I just have one more weigh in (next month) and my paper work will be submitted on November 13 so I have not been approved yet but I'm certain I will be.
My surgeon (not insurance) required the endoscopy and I'm not scheduled for that until next month! So if all goes well with that, I should already be approved by my insurance and can be schuduled for surgery so I'm shooting for Mid or late December for surgery!
So I pretty much answerd my own questions by calling the dietitian today lol but now that I know the resons for the extrem diet, I'd just like any helpful advice of how to get through it until December! I'm sure I'll lose 30lbs before December I just don't want to gain it back while I'm waiting!
