It's been 3 days since my vsg surgery. I can't drink water without feeling like I'm gonna puke. I woke up this morning feeling this was the biggest mistake I made. I wonder how long I'll feel like that.. I know in time I'll feel better but it's been rough not healing like I'm supposed to and it makes me wonder if I could have just lost the weight on my own. My shoulders back and chest hurt from all the air inside me. Can anyone give me some helpful tips to get through this, and this deep regret I'm feeling..

Walking should help dislodge gas and make you feel better

A heating pad in your upper back may help

A warm shower may make you feel more human

Tiny sips of different temperature liquid should make it easier to get your fluids in.

Staying ahead of your pain or discomfort with pain meds or Tylenol may help.

A good cry and 10-minute pity party may help you feel better.

Timebox your regrets and have your feelings and then take a deep breath, a small sip of water and get on with your day!!!!

Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?

Walking as much as possible will help with the gas!

You might also try different liquids and temperatures.  Some people have better luck with crystal light.  Some people do well with hot tea.  Lots of people don't tolerate ice cold drinks so soon, so luke warm or hot might work better.

Hang tough - things will get better soon.  The first week or so can be tough - but things will improve greatly.

By next month, you'll be saying this is the best thing you could have done for yourself.  Really!

Drink "something" -- find something soothing.  Anything wet counts, but you need at least 64 ounces of fluids each day.  Anything less can leave you dehydrated, which leads to more fatigue and nausea, likely what you're experiencing right now.  It doesn't need to be water.  Try different flavors and temperatures, too.

I felt the same way for a couple of days after my surgery. I was hungry and sick of everything tasting disgusting- even water. (WTH?). But it passed and I'm excited about the journey I am now on.

Hang in there!

Thank you everyone for the advice, and the encouraging words. Turns out my stomach doesn't like cold water that much, the tea and broth they gave me has made the nausea go away. One talk with my son helped me remember why I did this in the first place. :)  I don't doubt I'll have more days like this, I just have to keep being positive and keep remembering why I chose to do this to begin with.

i've had gallbladder surgery and the abdominal pain from all the gas is the worst! walk as much as possible. if you're laying down, lay on your left side for a long time. then lay on your right for a shorter time, and again on the left side for a long time. for some reason doing this really helps move the gas out (probably because of how the bowel goes up and around the rest of your organs)
