Alcohol....don't do if you've ever had a problem!

I would say that, yes, I had a predisposition to addictions.  I had struggled with chemical, sexual and food addictions pre-surgery.  Alcohol was a new one for me after surgery.  I also strongly believe there is a genetic component to addiction, so if someone has an addict/alcoholic in their family, they are at greater risk for developing alcoholism.

I will also ad a yes to the sexual addictions.  Especially during "sober periods" I would find myself in sexual situations with men or women to fill some void.  It really didn't matter as long as it filled my time and released some chemical in my brain.

I developed an addiction to pain killers after WLS.  I consider myself an alcoholic too but my DOC is pills.

Heed the warnings please.

It took me 13 years but I lost everything also.  I have a different life now.  It is not at all what I imagined but I'm at peace, after all those years of being in emotional turmoil.

I don't give advice unless expressly asked-so I will just say this-see a therapist.  Even if it means putting off surgery.
