Had my surgery on October 1st, been on clear liquids until today. My husband and I went out to eat  I had loaded potato   soup, the waitress was so kind she added liquid and blended in the blender until it was liquefied. OMG was it good. I only had about 3 oz because I wasn't sure how my new tummy would take it. So fae so good

Wow! That's a pretty amazing restaurant! Mind if I ask which one?

and Hey!! Surgery Sister!! - we're both sleeved on Oct 1st! I can't wait to see how things go for you.

Your doc let you go from clear liquids to full liquids? My post op plan has me on clear liquids for a full weak, then I can do protein shakes and clear liquids for another week... at week 3 I can start full liquids. I wish I had your doc!

P.S. Hows your emotional roller coaster going?

Lucky for me my nose kicked in and EVERYTHING he ate smelled like crap. So in the beginning it really didn't bother me that he ate some of my trigger foods because I had no desire to eat what smelled like a bag of poop.

Now that I am a few more weeks out it doesn't smell too bad. I try to get my husband and son conform to my plan...somewhat. Baked chicken instead of fried and broccoli and cheese instead of tater tots. Small changes. They sometimes go rogue, but I know that it is not for me.

Oh, if I make sure that I eat before they do I have no desire to get anything off of their plate. I'm busy digesting my 2 oz of protein!

I was a day before you on the 30th. I haven't had too much pain, but I am having trouble swallowing. When I take a drink of anything thicker than water..I feel a pain down my back and then feel like I have to burp. It is almost like I am swallowing air or something. I just can't figure it out.

As far as with the rest of the family, it hasn't bothered me at all! I am lucky in that respect.

I fell weak too!

If I take a big sip I feel a lot of pressure right at the point it hits my stomach. It resolves after a second or two but it's definitely a new/scary feeling. No real pain yet while drinking anything - but I'm still on clear liquids - I hope the thicker fluids won't be more difficult.

Are you getting that "I need to burp" feeling after drinking pretty much anything?

I had that awful swallow air feeling when I consumed liquids. Did you try different temperatures of your other drinks? I also adjusted the size of my sips. At one point they were super tiny, just wetting the tip of my tongue sips. Finally, I had to walk while I drank. The walking helped pass the liquid easier.

9 weeks out and I only get that feeling when I do drink too big of a sip and air gets down there. It is nothing like the feeling of the first week or two.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I had 3 huge family functions within 2 weeks of my VSG. It was very difficult to be around such food-centric events but just keep yourself busy during dinner. If you are on clear liquids, prepare yourself the best smelling chicken broth ever and slowly enjoy it while the others eat. You can sit while your husband eats just do something to take your mind off food - my husband has never heard so much about my work day as he did those first few weeks.  Good luck - it will get better soon.

I never really found it an issue. I was sleeved on December 16th (During the holidays) and I thought it would be hard. But I did not really care what everyone else ate. But I was only on a liquid diet about 6 days. I could not have imagined eating anything solid for about a month, but I was prepared mentally. My doctor actually allowed me to start eating pureed food by Christmas, so 8 days? I am down almost 100lbs and seem to be doing just fine now 10 months post op. I still only eat about a cup full of food at a time. But it will get easier and when you start eating solids, your sleeve will tel you when its too much. Best of luck.
