I can't eat leafy greens, so I'm deficient.  Sad times, since I love them.

Has that always been or since surgery?

Somewhere in between?  I haven't always been unable to eat leafy greens, but it started a number of years before surgery.

First off, Gwenmo had a different surgery than you.  If you read the sticky comment at the top of the page. You shouldn't come on here to get your vitamin information. You should speak to your physician along with looking at your labs to determine what you need to get back in track.

I'm not asking the question to know what to take for myself personally. Just a general question bc I'm curious. I know which vitamins I am supposed to be taking, just curious about different things people become difficient in over time. Thanks for your concern thoughh

You are 14 months post op. You know what you should be taking or have an idea.Asking people to post what they take is confusing to pre ops and early post ops.  For example. GwenMo, though innocent posted Vit K. That is something SHE must take.  Please see the sticky at the top of the main page. Those are only guidelines. Not written in stone... You must listen and follow your surgeons advise. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE VITAMIN RECOMMENDATIONS FROM A STRANGERS ON THE INTERNET. I hope you can find your way to get back on track. One person in this thread actuality told a 2 week post op that she could drink a gallon of water in an hour today. No one knows why. That isn't in the ABMBS guidelines. Go to your doctor and get back on the program. You are still in your honeymoon period.

Best of luck to you

I use a system called Medcenter.  You organize your vitamins and supplements once a month and it has a talking reminder to tell you when to take them.  It costs a little over $40.00 on Amazon.  I feel it was well worth it to keep me on track.

I am two weeks away from being seven years out.  Vitamin D has been tricky the entire time since surgery and probably before since I live in Northeast Ohio that has so much cloud cover that it was chosen as the best place to build defense weapons during World War II.  It is somewhat rare to have a sunny day here and most people have Vitamin D deficiency here.

I did not take iron until this year, because I was post-menopause and my levels were always good.  They dropped this year, probably because I stopped most eating red meat.  I was taken off of calcium a long time ago because I was getting too much.  My calcium levels are still fine.  I take iron, vitamin D, and a bariatric multi as well as B12 sublingual daily.  Each year we look at my labs and tweak supplements when needed.

It is not a do-it-yourself project.  Our systems are altered and cannot absorb vitamins like people who did not have weight loss surgery.  Work with your doctor.

I am 9 years out and have just gotten back to taking my vitamins as I fell off track as well. I take a centrum chewable, some sort of calcium supplement (Tums usually), and I get B12 injections once a week. Or supposed to be once a week...

Why have you chosen to take calcium carbonate rather than citrate?

I take 2 multi's, iron, calcium (2000 daily because with 1500 I was experiencing bone loss), a B50 complex and Vit D.  My calcium and K have been the problem areas, but since I take anticoagulants (which are significantly interrelated) I don't take any additional Vit K.. We just leave it a bit low.
