What vitamins are essential to you?
Ok, so I'm ashamed to say this bc I never thought this would be me buttt after 14 months I have fallen off track with my vitamins. I'm getting them all together and getting back on track! I know what I should be taking but I'm just curious as to what any of you guys take as far as your supplements! Tia
I take two multis a day, 1500 mg calcium citrate day - both of which is recommended by the ASMBS.
I take B12 shots every other week because once a month wasn't enough to keep my level up.
I take 300 mg iron (carbonyl) because my ferritin tanked on the amount of iron recommended by the ASMBS.
I take 50,000 IU D3 two or three times a week, 25,000 IU vitamin A three or four times a week, and 50 mg zinc twice a week, all based on my labs.
If you haven't been taking your vitamins, you might want to get labs done to see what extra things you need to add.

You should only take extra D3 if your labs indicate you need it. So wait for the results. :)

You should base it on your labs but probably, yeah. Most RNY folks need at least 10,000 IU D3 a day in addition to what's in their calcium and multi. Some do need less, though, so I'd wait for your labs and then base it on that.

Taking Vitamin A from supplement is not a good idea. Taking it from food is much safer. I mean carrots, sweet potato, spinach, pumpkin - these foods has plenty of it.
Essential for me is vitamin D, because is very hard to take from food. Here you can read more about it: http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminD-HealthProfessional/
Other important vitamins for me are B12 and calcium (it's mineral, not vitamin). I eat too little products high in calcium, my fault.
I require 25,000 IU vitamin A three or four times per week to keep the level in my blood good. There is no way I could eat enough carrots and sweet potatoes to get that much. Why is it not a good idea to take the amount my labs indicate I need? My doctor and I both agree think it is a good idea to keep my vitamin A level in the healthy range.

Why are you taking vitamin K. Do you have blood clotting problems?
