if the serving is 15 gr.... and some of that is carbs, and fiber...

how in the real - physical (not imaginary world) can it contain 30 gr of proteins?

You cannot get 30 grams of protein in a 15 gram serving. Not in our current universe.

What they have done is process the crap out of whey protein, similar to how other failed companies have done in the past. The other companies failed because their claims were also bogus. They all revolve around a molecule they call a hexapeptide.

The company throws around a lot of doubletalk, but you will not see a nutrition label the way you will on a reputable product.

They have an asterisk next to the 30 gram figure that says "equivalent." That's because their 15 gram scoop only has 10 grams of whey protein. They claim it is "equivalent" to 30 grams of protein because their Genepro is absorbed three times better than "normal" whey protein. They have only their own marketing hype to make this claim.

One of the things people seem to love about this product is that it dissolves so well compared to other whey powders. Well, duh. You are only dissolving 10 grams of whey, not 30, so of course it dissolves better. Take one third of your usual powder and see how well it dissolves. It will look like magic too.

The other big problem with Genepro is that they claim to be absorbed in the upper part of the digestive tract. If you had RNY or DS this wouldn't do you any good.

Unfortunately, people using this are thinking they are getting 30 grams of protein, when in reality they are getting only 10. That means the cost per gram is three times higher than you thought. Oh, and it could leave you malnourished to boot.

As obese and formerly obese people, many of us have been victimized by fake science, false promises, and diets, gadgets and gizmos that don't work. There is no super food that will make us lose weight, and no super supplement that provides three times the nutrition that it possibly can.

so what other protein supplement would you suggest-  unflavored?  Is Unjur sp? Good?

Unjury is popular. But choices are so individual. Something that one person loves, makes someone else gag. Your best bet is to find small samples before buying larger quantities.

In the end, most programs prefer people develop new diets with whole foods rather than supplements as soon as you are able. If you need to supplement with protein powders for a while, that's fine. But try to avoid being dependent on them.

Beneprotein, although expensive, seems to dissolve a bit better than most and has less protein flavor than many.  Unjury unflavored also dissolves fairly well, but has more of a taste IMO.

So I have to say my health is of the utmost importance for me - especially at 6 weeks out. So I took it upon myself to ask the creator of this product about the things that you said. I told him that when I tried his product that I loved it but I wanted to make sure I was getting the actual grams needed (just as a supplement - not a main source).

Here is his response back from my quiring based on Grims statement:

"Thank you for reaching out to me.  The FDA has regulated our product and that is why we had to change our packaging. First the allergen warning had to be in a white box and the serving size needed to be listed as tablespoon instead of gram weight. You are getting 30g of protein in the 1 tablespoon serving size. This was verified in our own case study as well as by 2 other independent labs. Unfortunately, with regular whey protein supplements, you are only absorbing 31% of the protein you ingest and with these proteins your body can only process 10grams of protein per hour. So, the math to that is you would need to ingest 90grams of powder over a three hour period of time to actually get 30 grams of protein into your system. Genepro's absorption of 94% in the upper GI allows for almost complete utilization of the protein as well as eliminating intestinal distress. So, it's actually a third the cost per serving as any other protein on the market. All the fillers and access nitrogen have been removed from the protein which reduces the molecular size by half. You may not be able to get 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can get 30 golf balls. Same premise applies here. We have had incredible success and feedback from those in the same situation as you. There will always be naysayers, but that is usually because they have something to gain by doing so. Genepro was accepted into the US Military Medical Advisory board after they ran there 2 month study on it and I was invited to present to the board a month ago. We are still waiting on how/if they want to proceed with purchasing for the VA hospitals and our troops in the field but this is a huge leap for Musclegen as a young company.

I hope that helps and puts your mind to ease a bit and thank you for your email. God bless and have a wonderful weekend. "

I can verify that the new package I received yesterday does look different on the front and back as compared to the website. While my body may not be able to absorb all of the protein I take in I can definitely tell you I do get the full feeling from the protein when I mix it with other things. I will test it out through this package and see how it goes. If it is good enough for active/recovering military men - it's good enough for me.

All I can do is give my experience in using it and my review. My research. My body and choice.

Thanks for everyone's in put!

You are awesome, this was so well put! Thank you for doing the research on this and for reaching out to the company. I appreciate it. I purchased the Genepro protein as well and while I have not used it yet, reading through this email thread gave me reason for pause but reading your email has given me reason to move forward. Thank you again.

My husband is also a vet and he said most medical advancements are first approved and tested through the military and to get your product approved by the MAB is a long process. So I am confident in this product.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't take the creator's word for anything, and there is nothing in his statement to make me change my impression of his product.

The statement that we can only absorb 10 grams of whey protein per hour is nonsense. It's a complete myth. Whey protein has THE HIGHEST score on the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS), ahead of chicken, steak, etc. I doubt very much his product is three times better than the highest score available.

I don't see changing their label from grams to tablespoons as a good thing. Besides being imprecise, every other protein, whether from meat, eggs, or powdered supplements, all have their nutrition information given by weight, not volume. The fact that they were required to change their label raises a red flag.

Anyone can enter their product into a military or government trial. It doesn't mean it's a good product.

Other proteins have an extensive history and track record. I see no need to gamble that a new product is capable of delivering on it's claims, when those claims could endanger my health. I'd rather not play Russian roulette when there is no reason for it.

Now I am very curious to see what was in the OLD label versus what is on the new label! Obviously what was on the old label was problematic from a legal or FDA standpoint (or both).

I also noticed that either she did not ask, or he did not bother to address, how this specially-formulated-to-absorb-in-the-upper-GI protein is supposed to be absorbed (and therefore be 1/3 the cost of regular whey protein) in someone with much of their upper GI bypassed from RNY.

Details, details...
