RNY on 09/10/14

Welcome Crackerno . I just had my RNY done two weeks ago today, and I am ding great! I am adjusting to my new life with happiness and commitment, and not once did I consider not undergoing surgery once I made the decision. With the 6 month supervised diet required by my insurance company and the pulmonary, cardiology, psychiatric clearances in addition to the lab work, endoscopy, and ultrasound required by my surgeon, it took from March until September 10th. Each person and their insurance plan is different. There are different plans within each insurance plan, and since they hold the cards to obtaining the approval, I called them as soon as I made the decision and asked them precisely what I needed. They pointed me to my benefits page, and I printed it and kept it with my medicals for my journey.

Best to you in your journey and again, welcome .

Hi Lilly M

thanks for the note.  I'm not sure where you are but I'm in Canada and the government pays for the surgery.  I have to see 5 specialists, Nurse, Social worker, Nutritionist, Psychologist and Dietician.  I have already done the first 2 and have the appointments for the other 3 last being on Dec 5, 2014.  I was wondering from then how do they notify you to let you know you are a candidate.  Here in Canada if these 5 don't think you are a good candidate then you don't move through to the surgeon.  If you smoke you have to be 3 months free of smoking prior to your first appt.  then throughout the appts they can request random testing for nicotine in your blood and urine.
