Do you still enjoy food Post Op ?
I'm 16 months out from RNY, and yes I do still enjoy food. I was eating a protein forward diet with limited simple carbs for a few years before surgery, so it wasn't a huge leap for me food-wise after my surgery.( The liquid phases of my food plan weren't super fun, but I got through it. )
I learned to cook healthy, delicious meals years ago, and haven't ever felt deprived or felt like I had to give up yummy food forever.
Mexican food is one of my favorites, and I make it frequently. I gave up tortillas, but did that in 2010. I loved my tortillas and being of Mexican descent it wasn't easy to do...lol.
There are things I gave up permanently, like fried foods and white bread and white bread products. I also stopped using sugar in baking and eating sugar laden junk food. ( Again, I did that in 2010. )
I'm 137 lbs down since surgery and have 3 lbs to go to reach my goal, so I think I've done moderately well with how I eat.
Hope this helps.

First of all, I'm 9 yrs post op Duodenal Switch - which also has a sleeve stomach .
During that first year, food loses it's luster for enjoyment (at least it did for me). Being a DSer, I need a lot more fat than the average bear, so Mexican food is quite healthy for me. I can easily eat two taco's with guacamole, and I'll eat half the beans and a couple bites of rice. I find that a corn shell doesn't fill me up like a flour tortilla does, so I opt for that, instead. Spicy foods have never been a problem, either.
To put things into perspective, the avearage stomach is about the size of a football. A new sleeve is about thes size (not shape) of an egg, volume-wise. Several years out, it settles at about the size of a soda can....much more capacity than at first, but nowhere near what it started as.

I totally still enjoy food. I'm 6 months post-op now. I have to take it easy with spicy stuff, since I can't drink during meals. Mexican food is challenging since so many of the dishes revolve around carbs in some form - but there are definitely good options for VSGers. But I love food. And I probably love it even more now than I did before surgery - I eat really awesome things because I have to focus on quality instead of quantity :)

7+ years out and I definitely enjoy food. My sandwich has jalapenos in it today. I love spicy. It is still a thrill for me that I can eat so much less than I used too and yet always be satisfied, like with an appetizer portion. I only avoid foods that I know I cannot safely -- that will make me crave more.

WLS 5/31/07. Maintaining a weight loss of 141 pounds and feeling amazing!
I'm almost 11 years post-DS, and I enjoy food even more now than I did pre-op---because now there's no guilt involved. I eat all sorts of rich, spicy foods. Last time I was at the Mexican place, I had a grilled chicken soft taco with pico do gallo, rice and beans, and a few chips and salsa. I ate ALL of the taco, most of the beans, and about half the rice. I was full and satisfied.
I even enjoy foods now that I didn't even like pre-op! Things like deviled eggs and cole slaw.
Im just alittle over 3 months post op with the sleeve. I still enjoy many different foods. I actually haven't had any issues trying new things and getting food down. I will say that feeling full is no longer a comforting feeling. I have tried a sample of a few sweets that leave me feeling icky, but other than that everything has been great.

I am 9 months out from my RNY. At first, I didn't really care about food one way or another (during recovery period). Now, I agree with some other posters: I actually enjoy food more. I just make better choices and don't feel the need to stuff myself. Hope this helps.
