How much will I lose?
You weigh 170 and are having WLS? Why?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I'm also surprised you were able to find a surgeon to operate, I assume you have a lot of comorbidities.
Using OH's post op planner, you could expect to lose 23 pounds with surgery -- http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/information/post+op +planner.php

I'm pretty sure I once had a bowel movement that weighed about that much.

You are seriously going to have most of your stomach removed to lose less than 40 pounds (a normal, realistic BMI for you would be about 135 pounds)?!?
Like the others, I am shocked that ANY surgeon would do the surgery. I have to assume that you are self-pay because I have never heard of any insurance policy that will approve WLS for someone whose BMI is LESS than 30 (which makes you merely overweight, not obese).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Hi Guys,
I have a medical history that made me a candidate for WLS. I really don't want to go into detail because it makes me very sad when I talk about it.
But FYI I talked to 2 surgeons and they both said I was a candidate for gastric sleeve.
I'm just curious as to how much weight should I expect to lose?
thanks
Well, based on loosing between 60-65% of you excess weight you might expect to loose 22-26ish lbs. I understand that you are a canidate for WLS based on co-morbidities, but maybe an alternative route is best. For instance have you tried sticking to the medicall supervised pre-op diet? I know I lost 12lbs in a week, my friend did it for 2 and lost about 20lbs amd my mother in law had to do it for a month and lost about 40-50. Its hard, super hard actually, but it may help you shed enough to get some energy back so you can exercise more. Its just scary to think that you are willing to go through a major surgery for 20lbs, regardless of what any surgeon says. We arent trying to be critical, just trying to let you know that it is HARD physically and mentally to go through any WLS. I wish you the best of luck.
