Day 2 of Pre-op Diet and have questions
So I am on day 2 of the pre-op diet that my surgeon has placed me on and it was a 22 day diet. The question I have is this he has me on a 1 protein shake for morning, one shake for lunch, and chicken, fish, or eggs and a salad for dinner and a shake for night snack, doe this mean I can not have any thing else at all, or can I have a snack like broth, or corrects, or celery or something along those lines.
I don't know what your surgeon's plan is. If you have questions, the best person to ask is him. Give his office a call in the morning. I would think you could have things like sugar free jello or sugar free popsicles, which are very low in calories, but if you're not sure, call and ask.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Definitely a question to ask your surgeon.

The first few days of the pre-op diet are always the worst. It gets easier!

Yes I can say it is really rough and very very hard for me because it seems that everyone around me is ratting things that I like and everything smells AWSOME. Today is day 3 and it a little better. The thing is I like the shakes and they fill me up it's just the time from breakfast and lunch and lunch to dinner that I get hungry and need something to fill the hole.
I did email my surgeon today to ask about the chicken broth so I hope I get good news
Make sure that you have high protein shakes! The premier protein shakes are 30grams each and taste really good. Getting in a lot of protein each day before your surgery will help you rebound quickly I promise! I was getting in 150 grams of protein a day and had zero complications like dizziness or weakness after surgery.
Hi,
My surgeon allowed clear liquids including broth without imposing specific limits. Part of the intention of the Pre-Op diet is to reduce fat in the abdomen so everything is a bit more roomy or looser before surgery. Also, there is a high relationship between obesity and a fatty liver. The liver obstructs the site where the most work is done, so they are trying to reduce it in size. The suggestion in other posts is a great one, ask the doctor what they intend.
In short, the pre-op diet was the suckiest part for me. I was restricted to four shakes a day and clear liquids only, no meal, and full clear liquids for two days before surgery, and nothing to drink the night before. Everything smelled good and I was hungry all the time. I joked with my wife that I know how a vampire feels.
The good news is that I'm about five weeks post op, can eat all foods (except high-fat and high-sugar -- which part of my new lifestyle), have lost 75 pounds, and feel awesome!!! Grit your teeth and bear it, the promised land is in sight!!!!
