Post-op Diet
I had my surgery monday, and am still in the 'full liquid' phase. I am doing isopure dutch chocolate protein shakes, water with mio vitamin enhancer (b vitamins) in it, broth when I am interested in something warm, sugar free pudding, plain greek yogurt (with sf torani syrup), and jello. So far, in a day, I pretty much get in 12 oz of protein shake (3 different servings, each over an hour), 1 4 oz serving of broth, maybe a 33oz bottle of water with flavoring, and I am constantly full and not wanting to finish anything.

For me, Phase 1 .. Clear liquids was only 3 days ... Isopure liquid protein and strained chicken noodle soup
Phase 2 --full liquids meant adding cream soups, protein shakes, thinned yogurt
Phase 3-- mushy foods .... This was the Evanston to real food, in my opinion.
I had yogurt in the morning and 1/2 a protein shake and water
I had well mashed tuna or egg salad or ham salad
I had Ricotta bake for dinner (similar to the inside of lasagna, ricotta, Parmesan, egg, spices baked with some marinara on top)
I had another 1/2 protein shake during the day and plenty of water.
Cottage cheese, string cheese, small pieces of whole grain crackers (I broke wheat thins into fourths) to eat my tuna/egg/ham salad with were also options.
Every Doctor is different on what they allow during each phase. Yes protein drinks, I would try several before surgery but don't stock up on too much as your tastes will change over the course of weeks. I recommend getting samples/ individual serving sizes so you can try several. My hospital gave us isopure, but i couldn't stomach it. Once I reached full liquids I could have yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, creamed soups(pureed or strained) and farina. During my pureed stage I didn't really puree anything , just chopped finely and make sure it's moist. My Doc said poached or soft-boiled eggs at this point not scrambled. They said to put a little gravy on meat. I am 7 weeks out and can theoretically eat anything but beef and chicken are still hard. had a hard time with canned tuna too. Some people at my support group say use your crockpot to keep meat moist, and try eating dark meat chicken instead. Most important things: chew well, chew slowly and make sure it's not dry! Good Luck!
