I thought I was being healthy
Today, my sis and I traveled to clean out our mothers house and hour + away. Real clean out, packing, furniture moving, etc. On our way there, she always stops at Starbucks for a foofoo coffee. today, since I wouldn't be where I could fix a protein shake, (no electricity at that house) I thought I was making a fairly good decision in ordering a strawberry/banana smoothie. I was pleasantly surprise that they add protein powder to them! They use real fruit and I had no-fat milk.
How could that be a bad choice when we were going to be doing what was on the agenda?
Tonight, I looked it up online to see the nutritional info. HOW COULD THEY DO THIS?? The carbs and sugar were horribly high! They took something that should have been a great item and ruined it! I have never liked their coffee or prices but this really irked me.
Good thing I have been good about everything else today.
Fruit and milk both contain carbs and sugar (the sugar in fruit is fructose and the sugar in milk is lactose) so even if they did not add anything to the smoothie but skim milk and fresh fruit (no added sugar or anything else), if would have a fair amount of carbs and sugar. For instance, if you had one cup of skim milk, one small banana and half a cup of sliced strawberries, you'd get a total of 30 grams of sugar and 41 carbs.
I don't know what the ingredients are in the smoothie you had, but maybe this helps you put it into perspective.

It's why I go when I read people adding all sort of things (bananas, even peanut butter etc) to their protein shakes! Fruit is very high in carbs (sugars) and you are delivering it undigested to your intestines - dump city for those of us that DO dump!
A fruit smoothie is not healthy once you pop that fruit in a blender (the major benefit of fruit to us now is fibre and if you are blending it, you should just dump a tablespoon of sugar in that shake!) and you would always be way better off with a piece of grilled chicken than a protein shake!

Kim's right. And any liquid calories will leave you hungry again very soon.
The best on the go meal I found was the grilled chicken sandwich at Wendy's. It's grilled, not battered or fried. Ditch the bun. The chicken is 130 calories, 27 grams of protein, no carbs, and will leave you feeling satisfied for hours.
