Is there a healthy way to avoid "bounce back" weight?

I am having RNY surgery on September 10, and I plan to do as my NUT and doctor tell me to as I have been thus far. For me this is a commitment that I began 7 months ago and plan to live by. Will I still experience "bounce back" weight gain even if I stay on plan? From posts I've been reading it almost seems as if it may be inevitable.

Also, I hear some folks note that their maintenance caloric intake is about what I would expect, say about 1200-1400 calories per day, including 80 grams of protein or more per day to sustain a fairly petite (in height and build) woman. Then I hear others say that a person needs to be prepared to take in 800/day for the rest of one's life, even for those who underwent the DS or RNY. That makes no sense to me because if a person is eating high quality protein, is at least fairly active, had undergone a restrictive AND malabsorptive procedure, 800 calories/day sound too low and not logical.

I read here daily and as much as I can so as to learn as much as possible. Thank you in advance for any feedback you can offer. I am glad to have found this group.

There is no magic answer to that one, I'm afraid.  Your balance is extremely personal, and something you find yourself when you get there.  That NUT is whack about DS though.  I easily get in 3000 calories daily, sometimes more, and this is perfectly normal for DSers.  NUTS usually don't know diddly about DS though, so it doesn't surprise me.

"Some" bounceback should be expected, which is why people really rock their first year to make the most of the "honeymoon period".  That way when the bouncebac****urs, they are still in a wonderful place weight-wise.

Thank you Valerie! I will soooooooo take advantage of my "honeymoon" period! And, I will just make sure I get my 80-100 grams of quality protein in, I'll avoid white carbs, eat veggies, and take my vitamins and all meds as prescribed. I look forward to it! And, in doing this my mind and body will find a healthy balance regarding weight and food intake. I do find myself a bit anxious as I get closer, especially because I am having my Nissen taken down and then undergoing an RNY, which is considered a high risk surgery. But, I cannot live a healthy, quality life unless I lose weigh and am able to keep it off. I want to live a healthy "clean food" life,  and I believe the surgery is the one last tool that will help me.
