Struggle PreSurgery diet I HATE PROTEIN SHAKES
I also feel your pain, however you will make it through...I am on day 13 of the aweful optifast shakes (4 a day). the vanilla was so bad, that I just refused to drink them and stayed with my chocolate, lots of ice and then some more ice, in the blender with a drop of almond flavouring. G2 was a good friend to me on the two week journey. I am so proud of myself, today, for sticking with it. It shows that I am totally committed to this journey. I will weigh tomorrow to see what my weight loss was for 14 days, and that will be another milestone... Its all good, no matter how bad it feels on the pre opt.. I know it will get better and be worth it month by month. Good luck my friend...
I am buying pre made shakes. I have tired other brands too but I don't recall their names. It's the aftertaste that I can't stand. I swear my saliva tastes bad for hours after drinking them. Kind of chemically if that makes sense. I have to keep moving forward. I feel better today. Not as hungry. But I am not getting the total amount of protein I am prescribed. I feel a total commitment to this process. There are a lot of wonderful tips here in this thread and I so appreciate them. I have the support of my husband and one friend but no one else knows. I am quite private. It's great that there is support to be found from others who have gone through this and survived or who are currently struggling to get through this pre op process.
They don't all taste bad... MM is not my fav. It's one of those gotta kiss some frogs to get a good one type things. If you need to continue protein shakes post op I would definitely recommend getting some sample/travel packets of different brands/flavors. It makes life so much better when you enjoy something you are required at least for a time to have. It you want something convenient Premier Protein (Costco) or Oh Yeah Ready to Drink Shakes (Albertons, 7-11, Dicks Sporting Goods usually carries them- what they look like) Celebrate Vitamins ENS Shakes are great (added vitamins and fiber, makes you feel fuller.) If you can have cream of wheat (add protein to that) I do it with oatmeal http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2014/04/post- weight-loss-surgery-menus-day-in_18.html
Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!! Hope you will feel like I do about having WLS... best gift I ever gave myself.

I am in day 7 of the pre op. I don't like the protein shakes either. I wonder peeps, if there are any decent tasting WLS protein shakes out there?
I am jealous you get to eat cream of wheat. I get to eat 4 ounces of protein and 4 ounces of green vegetables. When I get hungry, I've been chomping on Romaine Lettuce. Don't know if I should, but it sure beats going to the store to get some Ben & Jerry's.
I think it's interesting how these pre op diets vary from place to place. I love Cream of Wheat but I am supposed to eat it plane or I can add cinnamon and nutmeg. Plane Cream of Wheat is not palatable to me. I have decided to add a teaspoon of brown sugar to it. It's just enough to take the edge off of the blandness. It's not because I'm a sugar fiend or anything, but I can't get it down otherwise. Thanks for your comment and good luck to you.
There are some on-line places that sell sample packs, such as Unjury and My bariatric pantry. I got a few before starting my diet so I'd get a sense of what I like. Though I've read from the vets here that your taste can change after surgery, so I've ably bought enough for my 2 week pre-op diet and a week or so of post-op. Unjury has an unflavored protein powder that you can mix into practically anything. They also have "chicken soup" which is surprisingly good when you're tired of sweet shakes. Syntax, which I got from My Bariatric Pantry but is also sold at the Vitamin Shoppe, has lots of fruit favors that you mix with water. I like the lemonade.
Does your doctor know that you started 5 days late? For safety considerations, you may want to mention this to him/her. My surgery is a day after yours and I'm also sick of this diet. I went to a wedding yesterday and it was hard not to eat or drink anything but raw veggies. But I know my eating habits will change drastically, so this is the first step.
Good luck!
Thanks for your advice and comment. I did not think it mattered that I started 5 days late because I have done everything else to a T when I did start (except for missing my protien). But you are not the first to suggest I talk with him. It is the holiday weekend now but I will contact him to let him know. Funny how I have been preparing for this for over 6 months going through classes and coaching and therapy all at a snails pace but then when my approval was obtained everything happened as quickly as a landslide. Good for you for being prepared and really doing your homework. Very impressive.
