Struggle PreSurgery diet I HATE PROTEIN SHAKES
Hello - My surgery for Sleeve Gastronomy is scheduled for this Wednesday. I was supposed to start my liquid diet of cream of wheat, Jell-o, soup and 3 protein shakes per day 2 weeks prior to surgery but I didn't get started until 5 days later. It was a result of being busy with no grocery shopping time. Anyway I am full swing now and I am trying so hard. The hunger is so much stronger than I expected. Keeping busy is tough because my energy level is so low. And I cannot get on board with protein shakes. I really hate them. I've been drinking muscle milk. I thought I might try making Jell-o protein "shots". Something I can just swallow quickly and not have to taste it. Has anyone tried this? Or are there any other suggestions? It is kicking my butt, I'm so wiped out.
You really hate all protein shakes? Or you really hate muscle milk? If you really hate muscle milk, then don't drink muscle milk. Go buy some other shakes. There are so many out there!

flavors have an impact too ... while i am a chocoholic , some of the chocolate protein drinks I don't care for
so i get the vanilla .. i also bought some extracts to add to the shakes to change up the flavor.
Orange, Banana and Caramel are the 3 I like best.. lots of combos to try..
I hate them too. The only way I can truly tolerate protein powder is mixed in my coffee. It's quite tasty that way, but everything else sucks.
If you like coffee, get some chocolate or vanilla and make a little slurry (little bit of cream, whole scoop of protein) and get well mixed before adding the coffee. This keeps it from clumping up on you. Another tip - I get the egg-white protein instead of whey protein. It doesn't have that putrid foamy crap aftertaste.

I feel your pain. I am post-op 5 weeks and I HATE protein shakes too. Quite literally haven't met one I like. It's the aftertaste. I suffered through them, but eventually gave up and switched to fat free/sugar free carnation instant breakfast, 8 oz of skim milk, and 2 scoops of beneprotein and cheese/cold cuts when I could eat again. Not ideal, but it's less disgusting so at least I can drink it. I wish you luck and please share if you find something you like.
