Beginner's workout
Hi Everyone, I had RNY in Nov 2008. I did great up until the last year. I was never into working out everyday. However, I did a lot of yard work and walked everywhere. I'd like to get myself into a daliy fitness routine. I was thinking DVD's. I've been considering Zumba. Can anyone recommend a good starter program? Thanks
I really don't know any good dvds, I live in an apartment on the top floor, so my big butt dancing around will definitely be heard by the neighbors! LOL All I can say for a starter program is to just walk, & then walk further & further away, increase your speed, go up hills & throw in walking up & down stairs. It's cheap, easy & free to do. Maybe join a gym if you can swing it. I'd leave the dvds for when the weather gets bad. Good luck!

I also have a hard time getting into a normal workout routine. For beginners, Jillian Michaels' has a great program called "30 Day Shred." It's great because it's geared towards beginners and there's follow up DVD's as you advance. If you want to try it out it's available on YouTube. It's circuit training and it combines cardio and strength. All you need is a pair of handweights.
Do you have access to local fitness classes at all? For me, that was a great way to get into exercise post-op. And it meant that I had an instructor present to make sure my form was good and that I wasn't injuring myself. I now do a lot of yoga at home in addition to classes and cardio, but I'm glad I was able to do classes to help me get a good initial foundation.
