LIQUID DIET

I confirmed that I have to do a 2 week liquid diet followed by a strict 1200 cal diet until my next appt (which is about 6 months away).

So I started the liquid diet yesterday and it sucks big time.  What I find surprising though is that the hunger comes in waves - it comes on strong but if I can hold on for a while it passes.  This I find encouraging.  Hot liquids like hot lemon water and puréed soups also helps a lot.

Any other tips from those going through/have gone through the liquid pre-op diet?

No experience of any of that - just wanted to say best wishes! I think it is really unusual - maybe I just haven't noticed but I have never heard of anyone doing 2 week liquids and then a long normal diet.  Liquids are usually immediately pre-op. Suppose it is to give you a kick start, but it must be hard!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thanks!  I'm not happy that we only seem to do this here in NS, but if I don't then I won't qualify for surgery so I really have no choice.

Oh you have to do what your doctor asks you to do! Sure s/he has good reasons! But in fact the end result in terms of how hard it is may be the same! Some people do a six month diet and then 2 weeks liquids! Probably feels the same to those doing it!

For me, the first 3-4 days of the liquid diet were horrible and then it got significantly easier.

It's really weird that you've got a 2 week liquid diet now, so far away from surgery.  Do you know what the reasoning for that is?  I'm really curious!

To help break old patterns and lose maximum weight.  Kind of like a sugar and fat detox I guess.  Then I have do it again for a week right before surgery which makes sense.  Flush and shrink the liver to make surgery safer.

Interesting!  I hope that it ends up being helpful.

I have to go through a 6 month pre-op session of dr. visits, nutrition classes, evaluations, etc.  Then I see the surgeon.  2 weeks before surgery & 2 weeks after surgery I will be on a liquid diet.  I will proceed through different stages of eating until I get to the stage that will be for life.  So the liquid diet is just a stepping stone to a more solid, high protein, low sugar way of eating.  I don't have any advice about the liquid diet except to hang in there because the results are so worth it.

Good luck.

I had Gastric Bypass in 2008 and had to do  a 2 week liquid diet before my surgery to get my fatty tissue away from my liver. It was hard but just keep yourself busy. Stay out of the kitchen. I was 292 at my heaviest and lowest was 127 which was too low for me. I am 5 foot 3 and I looked sick at that weight.  I am at 190 right now and am getting back to my exercise and program again. My ideal weight is 160. I am taking it  day by day.

Hi, Jenn! I think " the liquid diet" means  a clear liquid that you can see thru, like a water, strain soup, water mix with crystal powder- sugar free, clear gelatin - fruit flavor -sugar free, I don't think puréed soup is in the liquid diet. Better ask your surgeon or dietician again ,about it, just to make sure you doing the right thing! Good luck to you and God bless you ,Pray for you! I hope I'm going to have my surgery done at the end of this month!
