I just got the good news that I will be having my surgery on Wednesday.  I have a liquid diet high on protein and low on carbs.  But I have been readin that there are people 2 weeks prior to surgery.  Will my liver shrink for the operation?

Yes they wouldn't have secluded so soon if they didn't think it was not enough time

RNY on 08/13/14

My surgeon did not require a 2-week liquid diet, just the night before fasting.  Good luck!!

Having surgery so soon, they're probably more concerned with cleaning out your innards than shrinking your liver.  Some docs are more confident with the laparoscopic tools than others.

It takes months to actually shrink your liver. The 2-week diet you see some people doing is to deplete the glycogen stores in your liver, which makes it less slippery and easier to manipulate. (Not all surgeons require this.) All you're trying to do is get your insides completely empty.
