RNY 2008, now a mess
Hi. Had RNY in 2008. Did great, hardly any complications. 315 at surgery, lost down to 152 in 2 years. Embarrassed to admit, I stopped supplements, started eating junk, drinking beer, gained back to current 202. In between jobs (start new one tomorrow) so no insurance so can't get much needed blood work done for a few months. After stopping drinking completely a month ago, now feeling effects of being so non-compliant and not taking care of myself. Horrible fatigue, small twitches, so I know my iron, B12, probably everything is low. I can't remember the dosages for anything and what's best to take with what and when. Advice please? I am in dire need to get best supplements and know what dosages to take and which ones to take together and what to take by itself. Thanks so much for any help!
A daily multi-vitamin; I like the OTC Centrum silver because I'm OLD
A daily sublingual B12; I use the tabs available from Trader Joe's. They melt in about 30 sec.
A daily Vitamin D3 (NOT oil-based).
Calcium Citrate at about 2,000 grams daily. Do not use these at the same time as the iron. Separate about 4 hours between the consumption of any iron and the calcium.
Do these for about a month, then get your blood tests done. GET HARDCOPIES OF THE RESULTS FOR YOUR OWN RECORDS AND KNOWLEDGE. All too often PCPs just say "it looks good" but you don't know what that is, so know your own results. They shouldn't charge you for these paper copies.
