Absolutely! It was the best decision of my life! My main regret is that I didn't have it sooner.
I had VSG in 10/11, and since have lost 150 pounds, and another 30 pounds by plastic surgery to remove the fat ant baggy skin.
Do I regret having the surgery - NEVER! I am only sorry I waited so long to do it. I have my life back.
I read about the problems and complaints posted here. Seems like many thought this would be a quick fix without any behavior modification. At this point I can eat everything but just in smaller amounts. I have found that since the surgery, I really do not have an appetite like before and eat when I must rather than when I am bored, & looking for something to do, like before.
I am 2 weeks out of a VSG, I wish I would have been able to do it myself but I have asthma, high BP and back issues... would I do it again.. I think for me it maybe too soon to know but I do wish I would have had more input from my doctor.
I read about everyone being told to loose weight before the surgery or do this and that, I didnt have that. I am a small eater as it is , it is killing me to get all my protien in and now I am having muscle spasms.
If once I can really focus on getting working out and on a new lifestyle of eating ... I will see....
I finally have decent insurance, and some courage, so I plan to have WLS soon. I attend the imitial seminar next wee. I had my stomach stapled way, way back in 1989. They didn't have all of the options that we have today. The closest surgeon was over 300 miles away, and there were no local support groups. No one had computers and internet. I lost 110 pounds back then, had a bout of vomiting for two days, and some of the stapling came undone. I gradually gained back al of the weight plus++++
Now that I feel ready, my family is supportive. My kids are grown. They just remember all of the pain I was in. I had an incision that was over 12 inches long! I am so happy to have the support of online groups. I feel the doctors are more knowledgeable about the support that WLS patients have now. I'm older and wiser now, but also more set in my ways. I pray that I will be one of those "seasoned (and successful) veterans" who can offer support to others in a few years.
ABSOLUTELY 1000X'S YES !!!! I'm almost 9 yrs. post op RNY....now I wish at the time of surgery I would have had more choices of surgeries ( Like everyone has today ).....I had a choice between lap band and RNY and I chose RNY due to my love of sweets and breads. I've never for one second regretted getting rid of the excess weight and my decision to have WLS.
Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian
GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE; COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN; AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!! THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

I am 1 year and one month out from the sleeve. Yes I would definately do this again. No regrets. I was diabetic, had high blood pressure and cholesterol. And sleep apnea. I am off all meds. Lost 172 pounds and I am so quite when I sleep now that my husband kept making sure I was breathing. Lol which I was!! This process was not easy and I have made lots of life style changes but I could not have accomplished all of this without the surgery.
