Hello, Everyone,

This is my first time on this website. I am in the process of having the sleeve gastroectomy and I am somewhat nerve and happy at the same time because I want to get healthier but I have a lot of family that don't want me to go through it.  I just have some questions that some of you might help me with about the whole procedure because I have read books about it but when someone has it done that is a whole different ball game.

I can't tell you much about the sleeve, since I don't have one. But HOWDY!

Welcome aboard. I too and new but am very lucky I have the support from my loved ones. I am unsure what surgery I want or will get but am very excited to start this journey. I really like this site and am very grateful it is here. Everyone on here seems to be very supportive and will help along the way. I would like to see you and I and everyone else on here succeed in taking back our lives. You can do it!

I echo what Gwen said below. Check out the forms. Read them daily. There are challenges with everything. Even with the most supportive people behind you, they still do not fully understand how you feel now and what you will be going through.

If you read something and have further questions, don't be afraid to ask. The private message is a great feature. I would also recommend finding support groups in your area to hear what people who have had surgery are going through.

One thing is certain, no one person is the same and you don't know "what type" of person you are going to be until post surgery. Talk it over with your surgeon. Be "in the know" by reading the forums and reaching out.

We are all here to support you, and welcome :)

Sammie - you may want to check out the VSG-specific forum on this site (go up to Forums and there is a drop-down menu that lets you choose the type of surgery forum to jump to).  Also, just about any topic you can think of can be searched using the search function located at the top right hand side of this page (magnifying glass).

Happy to answer any questions you have - I've been happily living with my leave for the last 15 months.  Welcome!

Echoing Gwen and the others, come check out the VSG forums if you haven't already.

I was sleeved in February of this year and I'm down 100 lbs and now in that magical place called Onederland. Loving it so far, though I know it's a marathon, not a sprint! Diligence over the long term will be the key.

Welcoming you to the forums and wishing you all the best as you navigate your path.
