I don't think calling a lawyer will do anything, other than have your surgeon refuse you as a future patient.

Instead of having your mom call, I recommend you make one last attempt to communicate directly with the SURGEON.  Call his office and tell them it's imperative that you speak with him.  Express your concerns about how you've been treated.  He may be completely unaware that his office staff is acting like jerks to you.

You have nothing to lose at this point.  Tell him that you've heard wonderful things about HIM as a surgeon, but have encountered problems dealing with his staff.  It's more common than you might think.  If he doesn't return your calls, then it's time to move on and find someone else.  Obviously the psychologist you've been dealing with won't send in your forms for approval at this point, so you might as well express your concerns directly to the guy who makes money performing these surgeries and doesn't want a bad reputation to scare potential clients away.

Best advice yet!!  I work in a medical practice and I too had issues with the girl in charge of the auths for surgery. I spoke with the practice manager and things changed really quickly. I think since your surgeon is referring his patients to this psychiatrist, he should know how his patients are being treated by her.

I don't think hiring a lawyer is a solution - and it would be very expensive.  What would you expect the lawyer to do - make a call and threaten to sue them?  For what?  And you'd have to change surgeons anyway.

Might as well just change surgeons and get on with it.

thank you all and after seeing the responses and talking it over with my cousin who is a psychologist I agree that a lawyer really couldnt do much and isnt worth the hassle. I will be contacting my surgeons office tm to make them aware of this and see if they have someone else I can see if not I will have to switch because at this point I would rather wait a year than deal with her again but I will also be calling her to inform her that I will not be seeing her again and how in the future I hope she treats clients with more respect than she did me. I will keep everyone updated on what happens. ty all again for your advice and support in this

*update* I talked to the nurse at my surgeons office she apologized and said they were in the process of finding a new psychologist to do the clearances (which leads me to believe I am not the only one who has had a problem with her. she also said I can go to any psychologist I want =) ty all for the great advice I am so happy that I listened!

Good news!  I'm glad you called and were able to resolve it.  What a relief you must feel.
