I havent been told i need a liquid diet 2 weeks before my WLS...!
I had my pre op with my surgeon, last Thursday. there are 2 stages of my pre op diet. the first stage( that i am on now) and the the stageII which is no carbs, lean meat,no dairy, fruit, sugar, etc, basically protein shakes, meat and veggies. How come i dont have to go on a liquid diet except for 24 hours before surgery? My surgery is late August....
I never did any sort of diet before my surgery. We used to say that surgeons only put people on prolonged liquid diets because they hated fat people - there is very little research to show that two weeks of liquids does anything substantial for the liver ...
Be grateful you don't have to do anything like this - many of us don't!

Lucky you!! Not all surgeon's require a liquid diet. Be grateful :D

I was only on liquids for two days. My surgeon told me it was determined by blood work and that I did not have an overly fat liver that needed reducing before surgery.
As you spend time on this forum you will quickly learn that different doctors do different things so don't worry if yourlan is not exactly the same as someone else's. In addition to the doctors, each of us has different conditions.
Be happy and stock up on SF Popsicles for your liquid time, both pre and post op.

I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet. I was told to eat lean protein and veggies (not starchy ones of course) for 7 days. I did 10 days and my liver was perfect for lap surgery.

I was lucky too -- my "pre-op diet" was liquids only for 24 hours before surgery. I thanked my lucky stars I didn't have to endure the miseries of a two-week liquid diet.
The more you read here, the more you'll see that surgeons' plans vary -- just follow your surgeon's plan.
Good luck on your surgery!
I had no pre-op diet.
i like to think our surgeons tailor their requirements to our individual needs but it's probably just their personal overall prescription!
