Weight Loss surgery/thyroid issues

I recently had surgery on June 9th after a month I lost 25 pounds and now the scale isn't moving.

I know it is because of my thyroid.  But I am trying to figure out if its because I am still recovering from surgery and I need to give it some time

I walked 8 miles last week, a series of machines and weights and the scale didn't move.  I am afraid that I spent all this money on something that isn't going to work for me

So I am asking anyone out there that might have a thyroid issues for some help. Looking for some answers

Fearing that this has all been for nothing.

I have low thyroid and have lost 118# and kept it off. It is possible to lose with low thyroid.msometimes we like to use low thyroid as a handy excuse,but it doesn't always keep us from losing.

what is your diet like,for that is likely where your not losing issues are coming from. Getting 64oz minimum  of water a day? At least 80 gms of protein. Low carbs? 

I can't remember if you said how far out you are,but most ppl have a stall at about 3 weeks out and it is normal. Do an oh search for 3 week stall. There is at least one post every day on every forum about it. 

Stay on track with your program and you will get there.

I have hypothyroidism, I lost 112 pounds with surgery, I still have to take thyroid meds everyday.

I also have thyroid issues.  I found that I had a lot of trouble with absorption of my thyroid medication and finally started taking it at bedtime without any other supplements.  That took about 9 months to figure that out and I still lost during that time. 

There will be many stops and starts during this process.  3 week, 6 week, 3 month, 5 month are a few for me and it still continues.  Everyone is unique.  Just continue with your program.  You can try more protein and water if you can.  Sometimes that gets things started again.

Unless your thyroid levels are WAY out of whack, it will NOT keep you from losing weight post-op (and if it was WAY out of whack you would be having lost of other symptoms as well).

The truth is that for the vast majority of people with weight problems and thyroid issues, the thyroid hormone levels are adequately controlled by the medication and it is just an excuse that we use for why we are overweight.  I know that probably sounds harsh, and I truly don't mean it to be, but it is the truth, and one of the challenges of this post-op journey is letting to of the excuses and accepting responsibility for what we choose to put in our mouths and how that is reflected on the scale.

You are just going through what is often referred to as the "week three stall". It is quite common and it has nothing to do with your thyroid. Just hang in there, keep doing what you know you need to be doing, and try not to stress too much over the scale.  If you do a search here for it, you will find literally hundreds of posts about it. Someone posts about it at least once a week, so it might help you to reassure yourself that this is, indeed, what is happening.

Some people do find that they need their thyroid meds adjusted slightly because of malabsorption, but many of us don't need them adjusted at all.

When I grew up during the 1950's overweight people were relatively rare.  There was one girl in my class who was really fat and her mother told us it was because of her thyroid problem.  I remember when we would go to her house that she would eat huge bowls of mac and cheese, ice cream, cake and pies. 

Now I wonder if her weight problems were really from thyroid or if that was just an excuse.  In 1961 Jean Niedich weighed 214 pounds and founded Weigh****chers.  Most of the people who went to Weigh****chers back then were no where near as heavy as that.  People marveled at her ability to go from a 214 pound woman to a slim healthy one.

The very BEST way to prevent stalls.......stay off the scale !

Follow you surgeons plan.....the weight WILL come off.

You WILL have stalls.....you just won't know when or even care......BREATHE !

Sounds like a "stuck"/stall to me, so many of us go through them.

Thank you all.

I am seven weeks tomorrow Monday the 28th.   Water is 64 to 96 oz of water a day.  Protein has been between 65 to 70 oz a day. 

I have been walking 2 miles a day (for a total of 8 miles last week).   I am doing the ellipitacal, nustep and various other machines along with hand weights.

The scales hasn't moved in three weeks so today I put it out of sight. 

My blood was test just two weeks ago dr office said it was normal.

Thank you all for your responses it gives me hope that I will lose my 125. I am just going to have to be patient about it and do what I know I have to do.

Are your thyroid issues controlled by medication? If they are, then they won't cause weight problems. If you have thyroid problems and they are not controlled by medication, you should discuss them with your doctor.

a still at three weeks is perfectly normal and has nothing to do with thyroid. Look at the literally hundreds of threads about three week stalls.   Sorry. Just saw you are not three weeks out!  But my point still stands. We don't lose steadily.

my husband has an underactive thyroid but he eats well, exercises well, takes his thyroxine medicine and is a bit on the skinny side!!! 

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
