Prerequisites for surgery

Hello everyone, I have just learned that BCBS IL no longer requires the supervised diet plan prior to surgery. I am curious if this would hold true for surgeons as well. When I talked to a patient advocate they stated that sometimes surgeons require you to go through certain classes etc.. What is everyone else experience been like?

I didn't need the supervised diet but did have to attend classes and lose ten pounds, every dr is different.

There was no supervised weight loss required from his office or my insurance. My insurance only required I meet the BMI limits and have an understanding of the changes about to happen. The surgeon's office required the NUT visit, psych exam and support group attendance and blood work.
