Very slow weight loss with vsg

Hello,  I am 5 weeks post op vsg and I am frustrated, I have lost 12 lbs and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I track my food with my fitness pal, I do protein first always and average about 800 calories a day, my start weight was 186 and I thought I would be down more by now, I'm a manager so I am on my feet walking for 10 hours a day 5 days a week. Anyone else have extremely slow loss? I really don't feel like I have much restriction I can drink water like I never had surgery at all and I can eat about 6-8 Oz with no issues either, the doctor said that I'm lucky that I don't feel much restriction, but I haven't been feeling lucky... Anyone have any advice that could help?

im also 5 weeks post op and only at 20lbs lost.  You started at a low weight of 186 already so your weight loss may be gradually slower because you don't have much to lose! plus you really want to watch what you take in! maybe your taking in to much at only 5 weeks post op!

Well, I would tell you that what you CAN eat is different than what you SHOULD eat at 5 weeks out.  At 5 weeks out you have to realize that not all the nerve endings that were cut have healed back up yet so it may be too soon for you to feel "real" restriction.  Is that 6-8 oz. liquid or dense protein?  I would be shocked if you are eating 6-8 oz. of dense protein (chicken breast) in one sitting with no restriction.   I can't even do that yet and I'm 14 months out from surgery.

At 5 weeks I could drink water pretty freely.  But if I were you, I'd dial back the eating to 2-3 oz. of dense protein at a time, and only eat every 3 hours.

2.4 pounds a week sounds super awesome.

How much protein are you getting a day?  How much water?  6-8 ounces seems like a lot of food to eat at one time, even if you can doesn't mean that you should.  I eat three meals a day and they're 3-4 ounces.  I -could- eat more, but what I'm eating nourishes and sates me, so why?

Well I'm getting 60oz of water a day, and my Dr wants me to do 100 g. Protein, that part is tough but I get about 80g a day, and I don't eat any breads, pasta or rice. Maybe I'm just a slow loser, lol  but if I'm eating dense protein (like chicken breast) I only do about 4 Oz. Maybe it's just me. I do have to say that although I haven't lost much I am grateful for every pound I lose. I just wondered if others lost this slowly, I  get discouraged.

First off, 2.4 pounds a week hardly makes you a slow loser.  Yikes.

You should really work on getting your water higher, aim for 96 ounces.  Your protein seems solid.

I don't know what your weight loss expectations are, but it's not useful to compare yourself to other people.  You'll always be able to find someone who loses faster than you and someone who loses slower than you do.  The weight will come off if you stick to the plan and that is what really matters.

This may be none of my business but I can't help but wonder why you got WLS in the first place when you're not so heavy to begin with. I'm almost 4 weeks out and I do have a problem drinking water and eating certain foods, especially chicken.

It's always strange to me to see this sort of judgment here. You have no idea what this person's history is or what her comorbidities might be.

may I respectfully ask why YOU had Wls when you are only 66 # heavier than the OP?

why do you think 66# makes you more qualified?
