I am scheduled to have the sleeve done with Dr. Garcia on 7/29 my passport is still not here and its not even showing up to track it. I had it expedited when I ordered it. My question is has anyone traveled to Tijuana without one? I will have my passport receipt, birth certificate, drivers license & ss card. I have heard different responses as to what happens at the border when coming back into US? I heard they will send me to the secondary line and ask a few questions and verify all my other documents. I am hoping to have the passport by then but just in case.......I have already made arrangements at work, already bought plane tickets, made arrangements for my kids & pets so I really do not want to reschedule. Please any info will be greatly appreciated!!

I have traveled to Tijuana by land (drove from San Diego and yes, you absolutely must have your passport when crossing back in to the US.

You must have a passport to re-enter the US. I know there's an office in San Diego http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/information/where-to-apply/agencies/san-diego.html you can get one in 5 days if life or death emergency (not sure what they determine is that) or 8 days expedited but neither will help you I fear... I'd probably reschedule if I hadn't heard by Friday.

It's a bummer but I'll tell you from experience you don't want any hang-ups coming back, stitched up with drains potentially standing in a long queue at the San Ysidro Checkpoint is not the most pleasant part of medical tourism... tell them you have gone for surgery and they may take you through a quicker line too. I got lucky on one trip down.
