And remember that a 1/2 cup measurement is VOLUME, not weight. 4 ounces of, say, broccoli won't fit in a half-cup measurement. So, if the 4 ounces is by VOLUME, you'd use the 1/2 cup. But if the 4 ounces is by WEIGHT, you have to use a scale.

No-one can answer fully without knowing which surgery you have had.

But the general answer is (and I know from your other thread that you won't like this) that doctors and nutritionists disagree on this. We can tell you what WE had to do but it may be very different to your own doctor's plan. My own instructions were a cup of pureed food. But it is fairly likely if you didn't have the same surgery or the same doctor as I did, that you should be doing something different. I am afraid you do need to ask your own medical team.

You should ask your dietician or surgeon how much they recommend you eat.  You mean they didn't tell you how much to eat when on pureed food?  I was eating 1/4 to 1/2 cup at that time but you should eat the amount they tell you to eat, not the amount I was eating.

I measured my pureed food with a measuring cup, not a scale.

I just used a measuring cup and measured 1/4 cup of pureed food.  I almost never finished it and would put it away for another meal.  At three months I could finish 1/2 cup of something like soup or chili, but it took six months before I could eat 1/2 cup of something like tuna with mayo.

The scale does not matter with pureed foods.  You measure those by volume, not weight.  When you get to solid foods the scale will help you to learn correct portion sizes.

Once you get your scale and start weighing foods you will learn what a serving looks like and can be prepared for eating away from home without a scale or measuring cups.

Do not worry about not eating enough.  You can always drink some protein shake if you do not want solid or pureed foods.  When you eat less, you body will burn stored fat to make up the difference.

Every single person on here is different and what one person can eat at 3 week post op others can not. Your doctor and nutrionist should have give you guidelines on how to eat.

I know my nutrionist said that the measuring cups are much better to use early out.  Look at it this way 1/4 cup holds 2 oz so a half of cup would hold 4oz and so on.  So you if measure your pureed foods with a measuring cup you know how many ounces of food your eating.

Why don't you want to ask your nutriontist or doctor?  That is what they get paid to do answer your questions.

Before I had a food scale, I would measure by looking at the package.  If I bought a package of ground beef, and it weighed 1-1/2 pounds (which equals 24 oz.), I would divide the package into eight portions (3 oz. each).  A block of cheddar cheese weighing 8 oz. would be broken down into 8 one oz. pieces.

How much did I eat?  My plan generally calls for 3 oz. protein servings - and I have no problem eating that amount.  But your plan may be different, and you should follow your plan.  Check out the daily RNY board "What are you eating today".  Posters there usually put their daily protein/carb/calorie totals so that might give you a better idea.
