smoking
Here's the poop from a reformed smoker, quit 14 years, and a successful RNY patient, maintaining a 160 pound loss for over 5+ years since the last pound was gone. Quitting smoking and being successful at WLS DEMANDS that your head be ready before you even undertake either one. Bottom line: If your head ain't ready then you ain't going to make it.

Try to remember how bad you want this tool and you can do it . Did they already give you the nic test ? My packet said they would do one, but I can't remember when... I know it's before surgery, good luck

I had to be smoke free for 6 months before I could even be accepted into the wls program. I smoked for 31 years. I just asked myself what did I want more...to die early from obesity and cancer or die an old lady in my sleep... I chose the last. Was it easy Hell No ... but I did it cold turkey. I felt like I was going to go nuts the first week or two,,, now 2 years later I am 100 pounds lighter and still smoke free. I still get the craving every now and again, especially when I get very upset but it goes away. As people are saying only only you can decide how much you want this surgery and be successful. You are making excuses why you have not quit...in my book your head is not in the game.
Oh no I understand all of that I am not making excuses because this is what I really want. I was just saying that being stressed about still smoking is not helping me quit because as you know for a smoker that's what relieves the stress. I am having some success and can control the urge to smoke I have worked on that past few days. I am very proud of myself too

We'll maybe they don't , I snagged my paper work and mine states "a nicotine level is checked preoperatively and if detected surgery will be postpone or canceled" maybe you should stop today and buy a nicotine test (http://cotininetest.com )before you go have blood work and urine test done if it's positive maybe you should call and reschedule your surgery and pre op testing . That would give you more time to get clean and it maybe better for you to reschedule than to have your doctor cancel your surgery. I know you said you may lose your insurance in Sept but maybe it can be postpone for August. Stay clear of smoke of any kind, do you really want to throw this down the drain for a couple of cigarets? Smoking interferes with your ability to breath post op, I'm not trying to lecture you I'm just trying to help, I hope everything works out for you, you can do it!

Here's a tip to help you stop smoking. Research something called COPD and/or emphysema. Visit some websites where long-term smokers talk about all the health problems it's caused them. Visit some people who, like my mom, smoked for years and are now on oxygen 24/7 and pretty much don't have a life any more.
Obesity can keep us from living our life to the fullest. So can smoking.
