Help with dealing with Chrushed bitter pills.
Hell I had my Gastric Bypass to sleeve reversal on my way to getting a DS and I have having a lot of trouble with having to crush my medication. Any Ideals on dealing with the bitter flavor or How long before it is safe to take my pills whole. I have tired a few things like using a sweeter drink instead of water to drink them and it helps very little. Any help would be appreciative. They also do not come in liquid form.
According to the ASMBS, it is safe to swallow pills whole right away as long as you tolerate doing so. I was able to swallow pills whole 12 hours after my RNY and never crushed anything.

I have to crush my pills and try to do it with hot coffee or tea. Cold water or anything cold doesn't dissolve them like a hot beverage. Also, because our taste buds are on our tongue, I try to get the crushed pills back as far as I can get it on my tongue and there is less taste then hurry up and take warm or hot anything. It takes a few swallows of beverage but the taste goes away instantly. Be careful tho, I take Flexeril and because it is a muscle relaxer, it puts my tongue asleep for a bit! LOL (True)

I was given some things in liquid or chewable form the first month or so, but was allowed to swallow pills / vitamins as soon as I felt like it. I did not continue to take the chewables, as they never have all the same stuff as the regular vitamins. Having to smash bitter pills is just nasty no matter what you do. Can you ask your Dr for a liquid version just till you recover a bit?
Now, I was only able to down a one of two of the larger things like calcium with the liquid required to get them down at a time, and had to wait a bit before taking the next dose. Now, I take them them a handful at a time. Hang in there, it gets easier.
