Uncomfortable ordering kid's meal

I don't know if anyone else has gone through this but I didn't expect I would have this issue after surgery. I was told before surgery that it would be a good idea to just ask to order either a kid's meal or a senior meal (I'm neither btw). I realize I should have practiced this before surgery as I realize now that it makes me really uncomfortable to do so as I don't like having to ask. I end up ordering a regular meal and throwing 1/2 to 3/4 of the meal out as I don't do leftovers. A few of my regular hangouts, I finally ended up asking. One place said they would make an exception for me and the other said it would be ok. Both though seemed confused or uncomfortable when I told them it was due to WLS so I decided not to say that anymore. Anyways just curious if anyone else has gone through something similar.
Then don't...order just an appetizer. Most kids menus are so bad for even kids...not worth the effort.

I order a la cart. My husband and I always joke about "the look" that waiters give me now when I don't finish my meal. You get used to it. I just have my standard request "Due to a surgical procedure, my stomach only holds __ ounces, would it be alright if I ordered a la cart, because I cannot eat side dishes?" 95% of the time, they say yes, and the other 5%, I don't bother pressing the issue.
Kids meals are so unhealthy that I don't want my kids to eat them.
You'll get used to it. Remember, YOU are the customer and they need your business.
Here is a restaurant card that you can check out.

I wouldn't expect all restaurants to honor such a card. I get discounts from AARP and AAA because companies have agreed up front to have a business relationship with AARP and AAA members. It is not realistic to expect everyone to give a discount or special privilege for asking. BTW: my surgeon gave me a similar card and I never once even thought about using it.
I personally, like leftovers. I plan my dining out around them. I take my own containers into the restaurant with me and have met with very positive feedback as it saves the restaurant from using their things. Some are appreciative of my "green" approach to handling leftovers. I also realize that bringing plastic ware may be embarrassing to some, yet it doesn't bother me. There are all kinds of solutions if one looks long enough to find them.

It doesn't make me uncomfortable to ask for what I need or want. If it made me uncomfortable to order from the kids menu, though, then I wouldn't do it. I'd just order from the regular menu.
