Diet progression INSANITY!

I disagree with all plans that do not start you on protein drinks when you leave the hospital, my surgeons rule for dismissal from the hospital was you had to drink a shake and keep it down.  I came home with orders to drink 60 grams a day or as much as I could.  If my surgeon did not follow this protocol I would have chosen another.  You control all the factors in your choices with wls, you need to follow a plan you feel comfortable with.

I think I may be biased because my post op plan was the Cornell one. My surgeon has practically no follow up programme. He gave me the plan and said to learn from it but not follow it to the letter - to work with my body, monitor my labs, meet my nutritional requirements and my weight loss goals. While I would never say that you should ditch your surgeon's plan after you have paid good money to have surgery done by your chosen surgeon, for me the Cornell plan (and all the other things I have learned on OH and have integrated into MY plan) has worked well. However, if your surgeon, like some/many, doesn't have a follow up programme and you are basically on your own with your own knowledge and research and with the help of OH, then I would say that doing what works for you is what I did and it has worked for me so far. Best of luck!

Thank you so much- you nailed the reason why I chose the Cornell plan, it made the most sense, and unfortunately I just didn't get the follow up from my doc..I chose Mexico, I knew there would be limited support, and I'm happy with my decision!

You do have a follow-up doctor here in the states right?

If not I would be looking for one.  You can't just have a surgery out of the county and then wing it afterwards.  Regardless of where and what you had done for WLS you need to see a bariatric doctor for follow ups.  Who is going to pull your labs?  Who is going help you if there is a complication down the road?  Are you seeing a nutrionist?

Yes I have a doc here, a surgeon in case complications arise, but no nutritionist.

I never saw a bariatric surgeon or a nutritionist after my surgery. I saw my PCP for labs. I basically did wing it - mainly personal research and OH info. My surgeon also answered any questions I had (which were very few) by email. I never had a complication or any issues luckily.

I haven't emailed my surgeon, but other than that everything is exactly the same as you mentioned.

I do have a question, what are your calories looking like now?

I'm in the soft diet now, so of course the easiest thing, and recommended food is thin lunch meat and cheese..the good stuff, organic and from the deli is kinda up there with calories. Yesterday I had 900!!I freaked out

I had one packet of oatmeal

One protein shake

Two turkey/cheese roll ups...one at lunch, one at dinner

Half cup broccoli

Half cup sweet potato

But I did get 93 grams of protein! I dunno, I'm thinking 900 is WAY too much

I may have actually over counted a little on the calories. I just seen that.the cheese is for two slices, not one..Lord I don't know I'm just trying to make sure I follow the guidelines to maximize weight loss. UGHH SIGHHH

I don't really know about my calories. I stopped tracking a while ago but I eat pretty much the same things all the time with slight variations on the protein. If I had to guess I think I'd be up around 1500 a day give or take 200. When I did track and was in weight loss mode I was around 800-1000 a day. I didn't do oatmeal and sweet potato until much closer to where I am now - and I would cut it back if I needed to lose a few more pounds, which I do, but am not really in any rush at this stage. I just had plastics so want to let that all pass and in a few months I will see where I am at. I did cheese and deli turkey all through weight loss.
