I personally don't think you are insane for changing your plan.  But I am biased because I had my surgery at NY Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center and I had no preop plan because my surgeon thought there was no need to torture his patients with a lengthy liquid diet and that he was skilled enough to not need the liver to be smaller.  He has done thousands of procedures.  One day after the surgery and for the next two days I was in the hospital I was eating purees - things like puréed chicken, never with any issues.  I was duscharged eating purees and soft foid and healthy stuff rather than SF jello and pudding which is crap.  Good luck with your recovery.

The OP has deactivated so won't read your comment or my response!

My concern is not with the plan she is following but with the fact she chose it.  The Cornell plan may be excellent but it was not the one chosen for her by her medical practitioner and she has presumably got it off the internet. If her own doctor was " vague", she should have pushed for detail.

If you choose a doctor to perform major surgery on you, you do not go online to decide how to recover after the operation.  If you don't trust that doctor, you should not have allowed him to operate on you.

Pre-op, I didn't have to do any diet either. My doctor did not require it. Some doctors do. Again, if you trust a doctor and s/ he tells you a diet is necessary you should not decide he is wrong and ignore his advice without a second professional opinion.

Someone who cannot follow either her pre- or her post-op diet us heading for trouble!

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I hear what you are saying - it is best to follow your Dr's plan and being compliant.  I just sometimes find it annoying when people just blindly repeat their doctors or nutrutionist's advice as if it is the only method.  The fact that their are so many plan variations are somewhat proof that there is no one golden rule.  And I hate to say it - but after reading on here for three years - there are a lot of doctors / nutritionists who seem to be somewhat clueless.

I agree with that!! Doctors who seem to have no idea of basic nutrition and nurses who seem to have no understanding of the surgeries! The OP does sound rather disparaging about her clinic! I find it hard to imagine having major surgery performed on me by someone in whom I did not have faith. Cheap isn't everything!

Thank you so much for your very kind response. I wish I had taken more time to convey that feeling in my first post. I just really don't feel that "flat diet soda, crystal light, sf jello and sf popsicles" are better for me than pureed veggies and yogurt, kefir, etc. Thank you again- I really was just looking for a little boost and support, you gave me that.

Hello,

I think that you really need to be on the MUSH diet right now.  Fat Free refried beans, fat free cottage cheese, sugar free cream of wheat, pureed healthy soups and such.  I know it may seem that it's coming off slow but give your body time to heal.  It'is really important that you drink your protein shakes because that is what is going to give you the most nutrition, energy and succesful weight loss.  I know that you said that you are a nurse but these doctors perform thousands of these procedures and really know what is best for you.  Be patient with yourself and I wish you all the best!

Thanks! Mushies are what I'm on right now- although I do try to vary the veggies and such, I make sure they are "baby food" consistency. With the exception of today's first thin turkey and cheese- which was pureed by the time it went down. I am really trying on the shakes- they are just- ughhh. I loved the Isopure before, but now they make me gag!

Respectfully, your opinion doesn't matter, unless you are OP's doctor. He/she should be telling OP what to eat, not random people on the Internet :)

Respectfully, I asked for suggestions- because I can't tolerate certain things. If someone told me to eat a mouse, or a bag or tortilla chips- I do have a brain enough not to do so. It's about what's good and good for you! For example- I didn't know you could substitute pretty much anything white, like rice, bread, potatoes- with cauliflower...but you can, and it's delish!
