I wish I would have known...
Took my own pillow - in a bright red pillowcase so that they knew it was mine. Didn't want to have to sleep on one of the plastic hospital pillows. Also served as the seat belt cushion on the way home.
The comfy elastic waist pants and loose top I wore in, I wore home. Don't forget slip-on shoes.
The hospital gave me all the toiletries I could possible need - including toothbrush.
Phone charger and maybe extension cord as none of the outlets were convenient. My sister had to go buy me a small fan because it was so hot in my room and my head sweats. Not to mention the plastic mattress liner under the sheet to make it even hotter. They provided slipper socks with the treads on the bottom so I didn't need slippers. Used a second hospital gown as a robe. It's too difficult to work with IV tubes and sleeves so I didn't bother with a robe.
I had a lot of pain when I got home. If you do, don't try to be brave - use your pain medicine as prescribed. I slept in a recliner for 5 days. Good luck to you.
Ughhhh, Forget the robe . . . brought one but was unable to wear it because of the IV lines. The hospital was great but the bed was incredibly uncomfortable, my back was killing me. Expect to be up and using the restroom every 30 minutes because of all the fluids they have you on. The thing I reccomend the most is chapstick. Your mouth and lips will be incredibly dry.
Once you get home expect to sleep alot the first week. My bed is raised and incredibly high and so I slept in the living room on the sofa. Take your pain meds, drink tons of water and just know that it does get better. The first week is the toughest, the first entire month is rough. It does get better around week 5 and 6. Just be patient with yourself, drink your protein. Good luck on your journey!
