Newbie Question

I am curious as to what my particular surgery is referred to on the boards.  I'm not having sleeve, band, or RNY.  It is just a straight gastric bypass.  Any help would be appreciated!

Well that shows how ignorant I am! I thought Roux en Y just described the way gastric bypass was done and that RNY/gastric bypass were the same thing! I look forward to someone who knows answering this!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

RNY is the gastric bypass. Here is a link fromt the American Surgeons bariatric association.

Sorry, I'm no help - my understanding has always been that RNY and DS were both gastric bypass surgeries (surgeries that provide a partial bypass of the intestines).

Actually, the word 'gastric' refers to the stomach, not the intestines. Technically, only the RNY bypasses the stomach---the DS does not.

I went back to a book on the subject and evidently I am having the RNY.  The docs at my clinic just refer to it as bypass.  I think that's what confused my brain.  :)
