Finding Help

I am 46 years old, 5'6", 220 lbs and am so unhappy I'm at times in tears about my weight. My husband is 6' and 160lbs.  We both eat the same and exercise the same.  I get bigger and he gets thinner.  I cannot find a single doctor to do this surgery for me.  I have been on WW, JC, Medifast, hell everything.  Thousands spent and most I lost was 20 lbs.  Exercising everyday and having a 7000 calorie a week deficit to lose 20 lbs.  I felt like dying.  Being obese is worse.  After a urine ablation I blew up and it won't stop.  Why cant I find a weight loss doctor in Maryland that will help me?

Most of us on here know what it feels like to hat our obesity and so can feel for you.

But I am a bit confused. You say a 7000 cal a week deficit? Assuming an adult female RDA of 2000 a day, so 14,000 a week, I assume that means you ate 1000 cal a day? And lost 20lbs? Over how long? Your thread implies you did this over a longish period of time otherwise you would have been pleased with 20lbs.

If you ate 1000 cals a day for a substantial period of time, the body would have had to use stored energy -fat. If it didn't, you need to look into possible medical problems such as thyroid issues.

Why can't you find doctor to do th surgery? Is it an insurance problem?  Have you seen a nutritionist? Asked your family doctor?

I was eating 800-1000 calories a day for 10 months to lose 20 lbs.

i have no thyroid after cancer but my thyroid level is fine with synthroid.

Yes my family doctor is aware who says that I need diabetes or heart disease to get the surgery. His words, "a few extra pounds after your 40 is expected"

I usually avoid the pop ups but ty so much. I'll call. I've even thought about paying out of pocket and going to Mexico but I'm afraid of infection

I just thought it was worth a shot and maybe they can help.  I have also read messages posted from people who have gone to Mexico and one of the Dr's advertises below the message area.  I think his name is Alveres?  but they had only good things to say and most suggested taking someone for support if you were driving or flying.  Good luck

Do you have insurance? I am not sure how it works in the US but can you go ahead without a referral from your family doctor? 20lbs in 10 months must have been a bit depressing. I can see why you might want a surgery like RNY to give you some malabsorption.  There is a list of surgeons at the top of this page

It's nice to talk to people that understand. My daughters wedding is in one year and I'm so depressed because I know I can't do it without starving, which with MS leaves me so weak I can't walk. I have good insurance but didn't know I could call them directly. You all are so helpful.
