This is my first post. I had surgery late Wednesday afternoon and was discharged Friday at lunch time and I am feeling wonderful. Already started eating yogurt and I'm feeling well. I was wondering if anyone knew when I can start doing light exercising such as bike riding? Any advice from anyone who has gone through this would be very much appreciated I have been trying to read all the posts but there are just so many and some of the information is quite contradictory. I had my surgery by dr. Singh at Albany med so if anyone is from the area that would be appreciated

I started walking in the hospital and continued when I was home.  I was up to an hour a day by six weeks.  Check with your doctor about the bike riding.  Probably no reason why you can't do it now.

My Dr told me I could resume all normal to me activities when I left the hospital-but to listen to my body.

I left the hospital feeling amazing. BUT I ran out of energy really quickly.  Most days I walked for 10 min once an hour. I also started each day with a shower, sweeping/mopping my house and whatever picking up needed to be done. Most days I also went out and ran some errands.  Small stuff but I also carried water and took breaks really frequently. According to my Fitbit I was walking about 3000-4000 steps a day.

Please keep in mind that you just had massive invasive surgery.  Listen to your body and rest when needed if not before hand. Taking frequent breaks will stop you from going to far and causing pain.

Call your Dr and see what they say about bike riding. The position might be a bit tough for you right now given the incisions and it might be fine.  I'd also suggest that no matter what your Dr says don't go out alone-even if you're just walking around your neighborhood.  When I walked, or ran errands even someone was with me.  You may get tired quick and need some help.
