My new provider (CIGNA) will begin July 1, 2014.  Just wanting some tips on what I should start doing now to prepare for getting approved.  Should I wait until July to make any moves (besides researching)?  What is a good plan of action.  Any help/advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You can contact the weigh loss surgeon now, tell them you will have coverage after July 1 and get your first appointment scheduled.

If you will need documented comorbidities to qualify, you could do that. Sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol all help some get qualified. But you need to have them documented by a physician.

In addition to the other suggestions, call your new provider and see what their requirements are.  Some require a 6 month doc-supervised diet and that the procedure be done at a Center of Excellence.  Good luck!  :D

Most surgeons in my area require that you attend one of their informational seminars...it's a great place to start....you can learn a lot about your surgery options and the approval process.

I agree, contact the surgeon's office and let them know that you will have coverage as of July and make the appt.  I have CIGNA and I had to do a 3 month supervised nutrition program.

Which nutrition program did you do?

My surgeon office put me in contact with a nutritionist that they work with and I liked her so I used her.  I saw her for 4 months total.

First things first ---  Do a little happy dance!!

Then contact insurance company to confirm coverage (some employers exclude WLS - so it's a good idea to double check) and to find out the insurer's requirements - you can probably even look up policy on computer.

Then follow suggestions listed above ^^^^

Congratulations, and good luck!
