:hi:  I had been very pleased with my lap-band procedure  lost about 70 lbs pretty quickly, very happy with the results

sadly i can't seem to tolerate my band, i've done all kinds of fills, no fills currently at 3 which is less sensitive to everything

and my weight is back up, i know that i have to keep my diet in check which i was doing really well, until, my rheumatoid arthritis had a fit and

and threw in vasculitus and now TB (i know how does one get TB?????)  so i haven't been able to work out much. i went from running marathons to hobbling.

so, i need to get the weight off to help keep my vasculitus eruptions from happening on my legs, i'm already cleared to have VBS.

BUT my QUESTION TO THE COMMUNITY IS.........with all i know all 3 procedures, is it better in the long run, to get the gastric bypass and work toward

keeping the life style change more aggressively?  in the long term.  My RA help issues will always be there... can't help but think that the VBG will have more potential of losing its effectiveness in my life time and the medical issue will should up again??

i've talked with my Dr.s ALL of them and the decision is mine to make.. what do you guys think??

i really need help with my pro/con list any feed back will be a welcomed valued opinion!!!

thank you

Just my two cents - you should ask your PCP and all your specialists what effect the different surgeries will have on your ability to take (or not take) meds currently or in the future.

If you don't think restriction alone will do it for you then you should look at the DS (dsfacts.com) it is restrictive and malabsorbtive. The bypass losses malabsorbtion after 12-18 mos and you are basically left with just restriction. The VSG, vertical sleeve gastrectomy is restriction alone and works well for many people but you still need to diet and excersize as you do with all the surgeries. With the bypass and DS you need extra vitamins, with the DS I believe you can take NSAIDs which would be helpful with the RA. Like Bette said you probably need to discuss with all your docs which would be the best for your medical situation. Good luck to you!
