Hello. I am new to the OH community. I am really considering WLS and from what I have been looking into most likely would do VSG. I am just trying to figure out if this is really the solution that I need. I have always struggled with weight. I have weight 200+ pounds since high school. I just want to really be sure that I am making the right decision.
Hi Oflo79,
As you have found there are several options when it comes to WLS. You and you alone know what is best for you. How? Start by reading in detail and talking to your surgeon, what is required of you to be successful. Can you do this for the rest of your life? How much you have to lose can sometimes be a factor and think long term as well. Research "all" your options. When talking it over with the surgeon make sure he/she has experience in all WLS (see more than one surgeon if you have to). If someone does mostly Lap Band they are not going to give you an honest evaluation for the DS, RNY and or VSG.
Talk to your follow members about what surgery they had and the pros and cons. Yes, we all love "our" choice but we also will be honest too. I had RNY and have no regrets and have been very successful. That being said now that I am almost 10 years older and paying the price in my joints for being over weight I wonder if the NSAIDS issue will cost me in the long run.
Again, you know "you" best
Please keep us posted on your success!

Hi! New here....I had lap band surgery last May. I've lost 35 of the 70 I needed to lose. I have been very frustrated with my doctor and my band since the surgery. It seems I am constantly hungry and can eat whatever I want and however much I want. Every time I bring it up to the surgeon he gives me a fill...I've had about 8 fills so far, over 9cc. It just doesn't seem like it's working the way it should be! Why am I still hungry????
Hi Becky,
It frustrates us greatly when we see members post that their surgeons and staff are not giving them the support and more importantly the information you need to be successful. I suggest you post this on the Lap Band forum if you have not done so. Also, there are some great Ban groups here. Give them a shout out and I am sure there are those that have had the same issues as you. They can help point you in the right direction.
Don't let your frustration make you back slide. You have done great and 35 pounds lost is better than 35 pounds gained. Here are the links I was speaking of:

I'm new here. So glad I'm here. In tears now as I look at the before and after pics. So hopeful to who I can be. I'm going in 6/25/14 for VGS. I was kind of fast tracked by self pay. I'm doing the pre opt protein now and feel like I could my arm. I'll get over that.
Im having issues with anxiety. Over everything. I'm sure it's normal. I'm good with the surgery. I'm sad about breaking up with food. It's always been my constant. I'm sure I'll find news ways to cope. I'm so glad in doing something for myself.
WOOHOO, we are doing the happy dance for you!
Anxiety is normal keep breathing. You mentioned you were some what fast tracked. Please make sure you have had a detailed pre-op education as well as access to post op continued support and education. It's key for long term success When I talk to members I let them know they will mourn the loss of their best friend. But remember their best friend was killing them, a slow, painful death!
You are right, as the weight comes off and you start to experience life as it was meant to be experienced there will not be enough time in the day to do all you want to do. If you have not done so, start a Weight Loss bucket list. Mine got me through some speed bumps.
We can't wait to hear all about your journey.

Hi everyone, well I'm new to obesity help community, I had my sleeve gastrectomy surgery on June 13th…I spent 3 days in the hospital because I was not tolerating any of the post op drinks…I finally came home yesterday and things are going ok…I find myself being very grumpy and i was wondering if any of you felt the same way…I'm thinking it might be a food "withdrawal" symptom but i can't say for sure…I just hope it goes away for my own good! It will be nice to know some of your stories!
Hi. I had my surgery on the 12th. I don't find that I am grumpy but today I feel hungry. Not sure if that suits normal!? I feel like I want to eat food. You know? Actually chew on something. But then again my belly is doing all kinds of crazy thing.s I have been through several emotions since surgery. . I think your grumpiness is just a another emotion to add to this process. I just keep telling myself it will get better. I hope it passes soon and you can focus on the long-term!! Best of luck to you. Smile... It will get better!!
