I just had my 2nd appointment with the dietitian and also had to have a s2nd meeting with the mental health nurse cause I said I ate when I was bored which sent up a red flag.  I find out that I have to see her each time I go in and my question is could this prevent my insurance company from approving my gastric bypass?

MANY, many people eat when they are bored!  Many people also eat when they are lonely or sad or stressed.  MOST people who end up weighing enough to qualify for surgery eat for one or more of those reasons. I do pre-op psych evals and I t is not any kind of a red flag (or it shouldn't be).

No, it shouldn't affect approval.  If they refused to approve everyone who ate for emotional reasons, 99% of the WLS surgeons would have to close their offices for lack of patients.

How many times do you have to go in? (Is this a monthly visit for a 3 or 6 month diet for insurance approval?)

Is the "mental health nurse" the one who will do the formal psych eval?  If not, you might want to ask to just get your appointment with that person instead of seeing the nurse because your insurance might not cover a monthly session with a nurse practitioner, and I am starting to hear of surgeon's offices adding various kinds of new "requirements" just to generate revenue.

I agree with what Lora said. Not to be a kiss ass but it is true.

I had my psych evaluation yesterday and I told him I ate when I was bored. He still approved me for my evaluation but just told me I had to watch it after surgery and it becomes a problem I was welcome to come see him to work it out.  Or he also told me to replace it with a hobby or exercise instead of eating.
