HI! I'm meeting with my surgeon on the 16th of June to get my surgery date.I'm doing the VSG. I received a call from the surgeons office about my TSH level being high. It was 5.2. Now my PCP is sending me to an Endocrinologist. I just don't see the point. It isn't that high and every now and then my TSH level does that and then it levels off. My PCP knows this. What I want to know is if anyone else has had this happen to them and did it affect you having surgery?

I do not believe that you are too high for surgery at 5.2.

Your surgeon is being thorough.  One of the good things about my surgery preparation was all of the testing let me know that my health was pretty good in spite of the weight problems.

My guess is that they are just planning to keep a close eye on your thyroid levels and establish a baseline before the surgery.

5.2 is just slightly higher than the normal range of 5.0. However I never felt better until I was closer to 2.5
